Greig Spence Celtic newsFormer Celtic striker Greig Spence has signed for Raith Rovers.

Spence joined Celtic from Alloa in 2009 and played a major part in the double winning season for the u-19s with a great scoring run in the second part of the season including the only goal of the game at Murray Park that swung the title Celtic’s way.

All but one of his Celtic goals came from inside the penalty box with the area between the penalty spot and six yard line his preferred territory.

A pre-season knee injury meant that much of the following season was written off due to injury but he bounced back to score in the 2-1 SFA Youth Cup Final win over Rangers at Hampden then spent last season on loan at Hamilton Accies.

New Raith boss Grant Murray has had to work within a limited budget and was delighted to sort out a deal for the Fifer.

“He’s been here since day one of pre-season so he’s looking fit and sharp, and he will give us a different option,” Murray admitted.

“There is room in the budget to bring in one more player, and we’ve made the offer to Greig.

“He’s enjoying being at the club and we’re happy with the way he has conducted himself, and his performances in games.”

Spence has played as a trialist in Raith’s pre-season matches and will make his official debut against Dundee United tomorrow.

Greig SpenceHis off-beat approach to life has made the @greigspence twitter account one of the most popular among lower division footballers.

A number of the double winning Celtic youth side of 2010 have been on the move recently with Declan Gallagher joining Dundee and Jordan Lowdon signing for Cypriot side PAEEK.

Three SPL clubs have expressed an interest in Richie Towell but no offers have been made due to the panic in some boardrooms caused by the demise of Rangers.
