SFA hit Green with bigotry charge

Charles Green faces being hammered by the SFA even though Sevco haven’t been given full SFA membership.

Before Sunday’s extra-time Ramsdens Cup win over Brechin the Ibrox chief claimed that the decision to place Sevco in the Third Division was driven by bigotry.

After the SFA and SFL threw away the rule book to accommodate the new club Green’s comments have prompted fury amongst rank and file clubs across all four divisions.

Those comments made the national news across the UK and were accompanied by pictures of Green applauding as Sevco fans chanted their hate for SFA chief Stewart Regan.

On Sunday the Ibrox chief claimed: “Some of it has been driven by bigotry, some of its been driven by jealousy and some of its been driven by all the wrong motives.

“My frustration’s been, after 30 years of business, I have never experienced anything like the last three months.”

Green has been asked to explain the grounds for his comments and will be disciplined if there is nothing to back up his claim.

Since coming onto the Ibrox scene in May he has consistently misread situations.

A nod from HMRC towards his CVA plan backfired when the formal proposal was instantly rejected forcing Rangers to begin the liquidation process.

Green was ready to withdraw Sevco’s SPL application but was encouraged to go to the vote only to find 10 clubs voting against with Kilmarnock abstaining.

At the same time as accusing clubs of being motivated by bigotry Green suggested that Sevco would embark on a charm offensive- while SPL clubs faced financial ruin.

He claimed: “I’m interested to see how things will be applied in the future because this is not the end of the problems for Scottish football.

“We’ll make a lot of friends along the way I’m sure and while our former friends have the difficulties they are going to face Rangers and the fans will have an enjoyable few years walking through the divisions.”
