SPL Celtic news

Calum Murray will be in charge of Saturday’s SPL opener between Celtic and Aberdeen.

Sky Sports will show the match live with a 12.45 kick-off meaning an early start to the day for many supporters.

Murray has already been to Celtic Park this season taking of last weeks friendly against Norwich City.

Aberdeen have been relatively active in the transfer market bringing Niall McGinn and Jonny Hayes to Pittodrie from Celtic and Inverness Caley Thistle.

The last time that the two clubs met was in March at Pittodrie where a 1-1 draw ended Celtic’s long winning run.

A deflection off Andre Blackman cancelled out a goal from Anthony Stokes with Neil Lennon less than happy about a 12 noon Saturday kick-off at the end of an international break.

There was only one clash between the two clubs at Celtic Park last season with the home side edging the points with goals from Ki Sung Yeung and Charlie Mulgrew either side of an equaliser from Jack Ross.

Following on from the Aberdeen match Celtic will be racking up the airmiles with trips to Helsinki and Philadelphia in quick succession.

Neil Lennon’s side will fly back from the Champions League tie with HJK Helsinki straight after the match then fly out to Philadelphia to take on Real Madrid.

Celtic were scheduled to meet Dundee United at home on August 11 but that game has been postponed to allow for the Real Madrid match.

No date has yet been set for the Dundee United game with both clubs hoping to be involved in Europe.

    Joe,

I bought my ticket last Monday and 12.45 timing was advised at that point, so hopefully others travelling will have had time to take it on board.

I thought it was fairly widely known that the game would be 12.45 kick-off. Should be a decent game with McGinn & Hayes both quick players who will attempt to shut down our full backs and there-by cut off a lot of the supply to the strikers.

Always difficult coming off the back of a midweek European game, I’ll be delighted with 3 points.

As long as we don’t start to believe the garbage in the media that the league is a foregone conclusion, and will be over by Christmas, we should stay focused and do okay, regardless of kick-off time.

It has been on the Celtic Website for a week or two that the game would be a 12:45 kickoff, definatly not last minute

  • Kauto says:

Happened last season too when Rangers played Hearts. I thought most people would have expected this time too. Hopefully it doesn’t affect too many folk that didn’t know.

  • Is the midweek game on the tv working offshore so wont make the game any help would be great. hail hail

I’m heading up to Philly to see the Bhoys- should I expect to see fringe players like Rasmussen, Murphy, etc or do you think the first team will get a runout?

  • Joe says:

I just hope we are on our toes. We will have to watch our backs more then ever now with the exposures of the corruption in our game.
there are lots of clowns in the SFA and SPL these days scrambling to protect themselves so beware!
