Four Celts named in Scotland squad

Joe Chalmers Celtic newsFour Celtic players have been named in the Scotland u-19 squad to face Germany on August 14 at Falkirk.

Defenders Mikey Miller, Marcus Fraser and Joe Chalmers are joined by John Herron in the 21 man squad named by Ricky Sbragia.

Fraser, Chalmers and Herron have been international regulars for a number of years and alongwith Miller were regulars in last seasons Celtic double winning side.

The Germany match is to prepare the squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Switzerland, Armenia and Romania which will be staged by Falkirk and Hamilton Accies between October 9 and 14.

Further friendlies have been arranged away to Norway on August 23 and 25 with the final friendly at Falkirk against Holland on September 10.

Coach Sbragia said: “We have been handed a really tough qualifying group so it’s important that we prepare well to give us the best chance of reaching the elite round which is why we are playing Germany, Norway and the Netherlands in the coming weeks.

“New Douglas Park and The Falkirk Stadium are two fantastic venues and we are grateful that they have agreed to host these matches.

“We have some very talented young players coming through and they will be determined to show what they can do and help us reach the next round of the competition.”

Next Tuesday, August 7, the new look u-20 domestic league kicks off with Celtic expected to be playing at Firhill. Celtic will also be playing in the Next Gen Series where they have been drawn against Sporting Lisbon, Aston Villa and PSV Eindhoven with the opening match a battle of the hoops with Sporting at home on September 6.
