Lambert axes Hutton

Paul Lambert has told Alan Hutton that he has no future at Villa Park.

Former Villa boss Alex McLeish paid out £3m for the full-back 12 months ago but Lambert has already decided that Hutton won’t feature in his first team plans.

Hutton was left out of Villa’s pre-season trip to the USA with Lambert explaining his decision after the weekend friendly with Nottingham Forest

“He’s shown a good attitude in training so there are no qualms on that front,” the Villa boss explained about the present situation.

“I spoke to Alan before we went to America and it is the same as before. Nothing has changed really.

“He is training with the first team and doing everything right.

“I have no problem with Alan whatsoever and he knows that because I had a chat with him. There have been no inquiries for Alan – not at the minute.”

Hutton’s rise and fall over the last five years has been dramatic. With no other club expressing an interest Spurs paid a reported £9m to Rangers in January 2008 despite the Ibrox side chasing an unprecedented quadrange of trophies.

Juande Ramos was sacked by Spurs nine months later with Harry Redknapp dropping Hutton out of his first team plans and sending him out on loan to Sunderland for the second half on the 2009/10 season.

Matthew Lowton will start the season at right-back with Lambert keen to give up and coming players their chance.

“I think Matthew has done well for a young lad who has stepped up from League One,” the Villa boss added. “I don’t think he looks out of place. He has done really well and has to continue that.

“With every game he’ll pick up things and learn about the game at this level quickly. He’s got to get to grips with the Premier League quickly and I’m sure he’ll do that.”

Hutton has been included in the Scotland squad to face Australia next week.
