Rogne replaces suspended Mulgrew

|

Victor Wanyama newsNeil Lennon will pair Victor Wanyama and Thomas Rogne together in central defence for the visit of Aberdeen today.

The Celtic boss had his defensive plans thrown into chaos last night when he was informed that Charlie Mulgrew would miss the match due to suspension.

Mulgrew was red carded in the friendly against Ajax a fortnight ago but wasn’t included in the suspension list published by the SFA in midweek.

A sending off in friendly rarely results in a suspension but it appears that the SFA were contacted by their Dutch counterparts yesterday about the decision.

Unlike a 12 month transfer embargo there is no right to negotiate the timing of a suspension with Mulgrew ruled out of contention to face his old club today.

Rogne played alongside Mulgrew in the pre-season friendly against Norwich but was rested for the Inter Milan match and a substitute against HJK Helsinki in midweek.

Biram Kayal and Anthony Stokes come into the starting line up to face Aberdeen with James Forrest and Scott Brown resting injuries ahead of the return leg in Helsinki.

Stokes will be re-united with Gary Hooper in attack with both Georgios Samaras and Kris Commons in the wide midfield positions.

Kayal will start his first game in more than a fortnight alongside Joe Ledley in the centre of midfield.

Kelvin Wilson is on the bench despite being linked with a move to Championship side Leicester City.
