Twardzik leads the way in Hamilton rout

Celtic’s youthful u-20 side turned on the style to beat Hamilton Accies 4-1 at Firhill.

The win maintains the 100% record of John Kennedy’s side with Hamilton unable to live with the young hoops who turned on the style after the break with some devastating finishing to match their crisp passing.

Patrik Twardzik scored the only goal of the first half with a great 30 yard strike then turned provider for Denny Johnstone and Bahrudin Atajic after the break with Atajic also netting from the penalty spot.

Jackson Irvine came into the side in centre midfield replacing Liam Henderson in the only change from the side that won convincingly at Motherwell last week.

Hamilton had a sprinkling of players with first team experience and looked assured and confident in the early stages.

In the tenth minute an Irvine header back across goal from an Atajic corner almost found the net but at the other end a shot from James Morton grazed the crossbar following a quick break down the right.

Midway through the first half some great footwork from Twardzik created an opening for Atajic but his shot from 15 yards out was blocked by the keepers legs.

In the 28th minute Twardzik decided to go solo finding space 30 yards from goal and firing an unstoppable shot low into the net to the approval of his injured brother Filip watching in the stand.

Following that goal Celtic put together some great passing movements with a 25 yard yard effort from Irvine almost doubling the lead in the 40th minute but the Hamilton keeper pushed the shot over the bar for a corner.

Hamilton almost equalised in the first minute if the second half but Morton headed over from eight yards with Irvine again coming close to netting when he raced on to a great pass from Darnell Fisher but his shot took a nick off the Accies keeper and went for a corner.

The second goal was only delayed four minutes with Atajic netting from the penalty spot after Fisher had been tripped racing into the box

Kennedy’s side were playing with style and stretched their lead in the 54th minute when a pass from Twardzik opened up the Accies defence with Johnstone sliding home his second goal of the season from 15 yards out.

Twardzik was the creator again on the hour mark teeing up Atajic whose crisp shot flew low into the net to put Celtic 4-0 up.

The only downside was a very harsh red card for Stuart Findlay in the 80th minute for a challenge that was probably a justifiable yellow card with an own goal from the free kick by substitute Connor McManus taking a little of the shine of another convincing win.
