Decision time for SFA over Templeton ‘signing’

Despite the claims made by Sevco the transfer of David Templeton hasn’t been acknowledged by the SFA.

As 11pm arrived last night the transfer window closed on SPL clubs buying players, an hour later it was the same story for the SFL with no news from Ibrox or Hampden to suggest that Templeton had signed.

While the transfer window closed for all Scottish clubs midnight also marked the beginning of a 12 month transfer ban on Sevco during which they won’t be able to sign anyone including out of work free agents over the age of 18.

Dramatically at 1.15am the Rangers website announced: “ALLY McCOIST has secured his top target of the summer transfer window with the capture of David Templeton.

With no quotes from Templeton or McCoist it has to be assumed that the signing had just taken place- at least an hour after the transfer window closed and the transfer embargo had started.

Even this morning the SFA still had no record of the ‘deal’ although they did record McCoist’s stunning swoop for former Sienna striker Francesco Stella.

This morning Stewart Regan will have to decide whether the deal for Templeton was completed and registered on Friday or Saturday- there shouldn’t really be any grey areas or wriggle room for the SFA chief.

The purpose of deadlines is to provide clarity something that Regan has failed to show throughout the administration and liquidation of Rangers.

If he requires any help he need only look at the statement issued on Friday afternoon from the SFA giving guidance on transfer activity.

It stated: “the communications department will be issueing updates on behalf of the registrations department via our website www.scottishfa.co.uk.

“We will be updating our website on a regular basis throughout the deadline day and please also check @Scottish_FA for twitter updates.

“Please note that the deadlines are 11pm for SPL clubs and midnight for SFL clubs.

“In addition, SPL clubs wishing to sign a player to play this coming weekend will require to have all paperwork lodged and completed by 5pm.

“SFL clubs wishing to sign a player to play this coming weekend will require to have all paperwork lodged and completed by midnight.

“Please note these are subject to International Clearance being received in the event of cross-border transfers.”

The last update on the SFA twitter site was to announce the loan signing of Ryan McGivern by Hibs from Manchester City with no further news before midnight.
