Marcus Fraser Celtic NewsMarcus Fraser is confident of Scotland’s chances of progressing out of the qualification round for the u-19 European Championships.

The Celtic defender captained Scotland in a 2-1 defeat from Holland on Monday night and is looking forward to next month’s qualifiers against Switzerland, Armenia and Romania.

Those games will be played at Hamilton and Falkirk between September 9 and 14 with Fraser pleased to go into those matches on the back of facing the Dutch.

“Playing against the likes of the Netherlands has been a good experience for us ,” the defender told the SFA website.

“We played some good stuff and I think everyone would agree we were unlucky in the end not to come away with a result. I know we’ll go into the Euro round believing we can make it out of the group.

“I’m happy to know that we can play against the best in Europe and more than hold our own.

“We have to improve our movement off the ball and take our chances when they come along.

“There is a good feeling in the team that we can achieve something by qualifying to the Euros. I’m looking forward to next month’s matches.”

While Fraser has a European Championships campaign to look forward to Scotland’s u-21 side crashed out after losing to Austria on Monday night.

Tony Watt scored against Luxembourg and Austria in the final group matches and will be one of the first names in coach Billy Stark’s squad for the next campaign.

The Scotland u-21 coach said: “The fact we have a number of played that can play in the next championship is really another pleasing aspect of this campaign.

“In the past we’ve had two or three that have played in two tournaments for us but last night we had four that started the match and another few in the squad.
The likes of Paul Hanlon, Ross Perry and Danny Wilson all played in the last campaign when we reached the play-offs and that experience stood them in good stead.”
