Gary Hooper Celtic newsWith six goals in eight days Gary Hooper couldn’t be in finer form for Celtic’s Champions League trip to Moscow.

Just one goal in the Russian capital would be very welcome as Celtic face Spartak looking to take something from the match on route to a double header with Barcelona.

Hooper scored vital goals at home to HJK Helsinki and Helsingborgs but knows that it’s a step up in class when it comes to the group stages.

Whoever the opponents may be there was no doubting the quality of his goal for Celtic at Motherwell yesterday with the assist from Kris Commons almost as significant.

With Commons picking up the ball just inside his own half he knew instinctively what Hooper would be looking for and delivered it on a plate for his team-mate. Without breaking his stride Hooper controlled the ball and buried his shot beyond Darren Randolph.

After that there was no way back for the Fir Park side who were relieved that the final score was only 2-0.

“We have gone top of the league so going into the game on Tuesday, that is a good marker for us psychologically,” Neil Lennon said.

“We are starting to hit a bit of form which is great. The new lads are starting to settle in, we have players back and we will need them.

“We were very motivated going into the game and we picked Motherwell off very well at times.

“They found it a little bit difficult to adjust to the movement and we were able to get down the sides and round the back of them because we isolated their two centre-halves and some of the passing to get the boys in was very good, so overall it was a big performance.”

Superb first touch from Hoops and a great through pass from Commons. I do think however we won’t be able to get in behind Moscow’s defence quite so easily. However when we do create a chance we have to be clinical, missed far too many good opportunities v Motherwell.

They have a poor home record in Europe, so must feel the pressure from fans…we have to increase it. Don’t sit back and let them dictate the tempo.
