Sno survives second heart attack playing for Nijmegen

Former Celt Evander Sno has suffered a second heart attack on the football pitch.

The midfielder walked off the pitch after 34 minutes of NEC Nijmegen’s 5-1 defeat at Feyenoord and spent the night in hospital.

Feyenoord doctor Casper van Eijck said: “Evander had a cardiac arrest which was followed by a shock from his internal defibrillator.
“And the shock is what he felt and that terrified him, which I could see in his eyes on the pitch.

“He was transported to a hospital because the defibrillator caused arrhythmia (abnormal heart beat) so he has to stay there for the night.”

Almost exactly two years ago Sno collapsed during an Ajax reserve match and had to be revived by an external defibulator.

Sno has started all seven games this season for NEC after joining them from Second Division RKC Waalwijk during the summer.

Gordon Strachan signed Sno from Feyenoord in 2006 with the midfielder playing a part in two SPL wins as well as starring in the Champions League before returning to Holland to sign for Ajax.

After his first heart attack playing against Viresse Armhem in 2010 Ajax coach Albert van der Dussen admitted: “At first I thought he stumbled, but very quickly everyone realised there was something seriously wrong due to the foam around his mouth,’ said Van der Dussen.

“Fortunately our doctor and physio were there quickly. They have performed an heroic act and saved his life.

“They gave him the defibrillator three times. We feared for his life, he was very lucky.”
