Lennon brought into Cole case v FA

Neil Lennon has been dragged into the race row that is tearing English football apart!

Rio Ferdinand and John Terry have already been lost to Roy Hodgson with the future of 98 times capped Ashley Cole now in jeopardy.

Fourteen years ago- pre twitter- Lennon found himself in the spotlight as England captain Alan Shearer kicked him in the head during a Newcastle v Leicester match shortly before France 98.

Calls to discipline Shearer went unpunished with the BBC pundit calling on the FA to ban Cole from Friday’s international against San Marino.

Cole got himself into hot water calling the FA a bunch of t**s for questioning his evidence in the Ferdinand v Terry disciplinary case.

Reacting to the Cole case Shearer said: “I think the FA can put a big statement out here by actually not fining him but actually banning him on Friday against San Marino.

“Because we’ve seen players fined £50,000, £60,000, £70,000. That’s not a deterrent to them. Stopping them from playing football will be a deterrent.”

On twitter Cole responded by retweeting a message from a fan saying: “Alan Shearer says @TheRealAC3 needs to be banned for his comments. I want his opinion on bans for kicking Neil Lennon in the head. #GlassHouses.”

England gather together today for the double header with San Marino and Poland with the fallout from the Ferdinand and Terry case dominating the agenda.

Adding to the shambles was Hodgson’s decision to discuss the affair on a tube last week telling his fellow passengers that Rio Ferdinand wouldn’t be considered for a recall despite Terry retiring from international football.
