Joey Barton's French accent (video)

On-loan midfielder Joey Barton has picked up a French accent after just three months with Marseilles.

Barton made his debut against Lille on Sunday after serving a lengthy ban for his sending off against Manchester City in the final match of last season which almost condemned QPR to relegation.

Mark Hughes shipped the troubled midfielder out to Marseilles on loan but it’s believed that Harry Redknapp is interested in bringing Barton back to QPR.

Barton’s announcements on twitter have brought him a massive following with his comments ensuring a swift exit from Newcastle in August 2011.

With money piling into the Premiership fewer and fewer players are tempted to move abroad but following in the footsteps of Schteve McLaren the on-loan Marseille midfielder has picked up a French accent for the purpose of media interviews.

Following up the interview on twitter Barton tweeted:”‘In my defence, it is very difficult to do a press conference in Scouse for a room full of French journalists. The alternative is to speak…..like a ‘Allo Allo!’ character which is choose. Its simply a case of you had to be there.”

Mixing French with English is usually referred to as Franglaise but Barton has a unique take on his mixing of Scouse with mediterranean Mardseille tweeting: “I am christening this new language Bartonese…”

Barton marked his French debut with a first half booking as Marseilles drew level with PSG at the top of the table.
