Neil LennonNeil Lennon wasn’t surprised by Inverness Caley Thistle’s 3-0 win over Sevco in the League Cup.

With Celtic safely booked into the last four the onus was on the Third Division leaders to progress to create the Celtic’s first derby match of the season.

The burden of expectations proved too much for Ally McCoist’s side with Lennon barely giving the result a sideways glance.

Asked if he was disappointed by the exit of the Ibrox side Lennon answered: “No, Inverness are probably one of the form teams in Scotland, I thought that they might prevail in the game and that proved to be the case.

“I’ve got my own agenda here at Celtic and Rangers are now in a different league from us. It’s not on my list of priorities to play against them. If they keep winning in competitions and we keep winning in competitions eventually we’ll play them sooner or later.

“It’s not going to happen this season in the League Cup, it may do in the FA Cup, if it does then fine we’ll deal with it but I’ve got a lot more to think about than that.”

Celtic travel to Tannadice on Sunday with Lennon determined to focus on Dundee United rather than the midweek visit of Barcelona.

“My whole focus is on Dundee United this weekend,” the hoops boss stated.

“Tannadice is a brilliant venue, normally we take plenty of supporters up there, it is a cracking atmosphere and usually it is a competitive game so there will be no talk of Barcelona whatsoever.

“Hopefully the players who play will do well and we will see what’s left after that for Barcelona on Wednesday but the priority is Dundee United.

“A lot of focus and attention, not just from the media but the supporters, is on the fact that we are back in the Champions League for the first time in a few years.

“It is very exciting for everyone, and I suppose the dream takes them away from the realities of the SPL but I can’t think like that and I don’t want the players to think like that.

“It is important that we get back to winning ways and get back to consistency.

“If the players needed reminding about any complacency they got it in spades last weekend. We had a frank discussion on Sunday and they know what is required if they want to play at this club.”
