James Keatings Celtic news

James Keatings is wanted by Chesterfield.

The League Two side are looking for additional firepower and are keen to take the Celtic striker on loan until the end of the season.

Keatings is currently on loan to Hamilton Accies but has started just two matches for Billy Reid’s side and would be keen on a switch south of the border.

Neil Lennon handed the striker a three year contract last summer as he recovered from a serious knee injury picked up in a youth match against Hamilton in April 2011.

Keatings goals were the drivingforce behind Celtic lifting the double although he was denied a place in the side that clinched the league and cup double due to injury.

After returning to full fitness he went on loan to St Johnstone in January of this season but failed to make his mark at the club.

Keatings was one of the most highly rated players in the Celtic Academy developing from the same age group that produced James Forrest.

In the 2009/10 season he was used in a number of positions before scoring for fun as a striker the following season until picking up his injury.

Both of his goals for Hamilton came in a 3-3 draw at Dumbarton where he struck in the 88th and 90th minutes after coming on as a second half substitute.

Tellingly he wasn’t in the Accies squad that lost 2-1 at Falkirk on Saturday with Chesterfield ready to provide him with a fresh challenge.

Last season Josh Thomson had a loan spell at Chesterfield with new boss Paul Cook hoping that some additional firepower can put the club into a play off spot.

Chesterfield are currently sitting in 12th place in League Two and won 1-0 away at Plymouth on Saturday.

No point in him going out on loan if he isn’t given game time. The club should insist that any such agreement ensures he plays ‘x’ number of games within a stated period (Injury / suspension aside)

He needs a run of games to get fully match fit lift his confidence again and show just what a lethal striker he can be.

Agree, wasted season with St Johnstone, only wanted to make up their u21s, needs a run to realise the potential, he showed.
