Kelvin Wilson Celtic newsKelvin Wilson believes that Celtic can overcome the odds and progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.

December 5 promises to be an emotion packed evening at Celtic Park as the hoops attempt to overcome Spartak Moscow while hoping for a Barcelona win over Benfica.

Celtic will be without the midfield duo of Scott Brown and Victor Wanyama but Wilson is confident that Neil Lennon’s side can extend their Champions League adventure into the new year.

“We are relying on Barca to do us a favour now but we have to do the job ourselves too,” the defender stated. “We can’t just expect Barca to help us out.

“Not many teams go to the Nou Camp and win so we hope that they can beat Benfica but first and foremost we need to beat Spartak.

“We have achieved so much and we don’t want to miss out in the final match. We have proved a lot of people wrong and believed in ourselves, so we want to finish the job now.”

Celtic failed to recapture the highs they reached beating Barcelona but Wilson still felt that they could have come back from Lisbon with a point.

He added: “We knew it would be tough and that Benfica would get chances, although not as many as they did. It was tough but to concede that goal at the end was heartbreaking.

“The way we defended was disappointing. Throughout the campaign we have defended really well. We have defended with our lives, so to concede that goal was heartbreaking.

“We had half-chances ourselves. We had a few at the end with Tony Watt and Beram Kayal. They were only half-chances, but we could maybe have nicked a goal.”
