Paul Lambert Norwich newsPaul Lambert won’t allow the prospect of Wembley distract him from his main task at Aston Villa.

The former Celtic skipper kept his calm as he returned to Carrow Road to inflict a 4-1 defeat on Norwich City to take Villa into the last four.

Villa will be joined in the semi-final draw by Bradford City with the other ties between Leeds United and Chelsea with Swansea playing Middlesbrough tonight.

“We’ve still got a couple of games before Wembley,” the Villa boss said. “What it does give the fans is something to look forward to because they deserve it.

“The crowd were absolutely fantastic. I thought they were absolutely unbelievable. To have to travel for three hours to get down here in the weather it is and support us like they did is great.

“Whoever we get in the semi-final, Villa Park will be jam-packed. I thought some of the football we played was very good and I hope they enjoyed it. The team at the minute is playing really, really well.”

Andi Weimann replaced the injured Darren Bent after 35 minutes with his boss delighted to see the sub score twice.

“Andi was brilliant,” Lambert added. “The one thing about him is that he’s a natural finisher. His work ethic will always be there too.

“Whether Andi Weimann is getting ‘x’ amount of money, or whatever, you will always get the same out of him every single game. That’s testament to the type of person he is.

“I left him out to give him a bit of a rest for the last few weeks but I know that he is a natural goalscorer.”
