SFA opt out of dealing with Tannadice boycott

The SFA are on a collision course with Dundee United after backing down from taking action against Charles Green’s decision to boycott the match.

Under SFA rules gate money from cup ties is split 60-40 in favour of the home club with Rangers due their take of the money despite officially boycotting the sale of tickets.

Green claimed that United were among certain SPL clubs actively engaged in trying to harm Rangers during the summer as he explained his decision to refuse tickets.

The SFA will now expect United to agree ticket prices for a match in which they will be forced to hand over money to a club who have announced that they won’t sell any tickets.

If no agreement can be reached on pricing the SFA will be forced to set ticket pricing which will effectively set up a donation to the Third Division club from Dundee United fans.

Shortly after the draw was made Green told the Rangers website: “This is a unanimous decision by the board, senior management and staff at Ibrox.

“Everyone at this club is dismayed at the actions of certain SPL clubs, which were actively engaged in trying to harm Rangers when we were in a perilous situation and we are acutely aware of their attitude to us.

“Not all clubs who voted against Rangers returning to the SPL fall into that category and indeed we made Motherwell very welcome when we played them at Ibrox in the League Cup competition recently.

“However, feelings remain very raw and it should be no surprise that we as a club feel this way.

“It is unsurprising too that there has been a reaction from our supporters to this particular fixture.

“The last thing we as a club want to do is to compromise security arrangements for any match.

“I therefore appeal to all fans not to travel to this match and to Dundee United not to sell tickets to Rangers supporters.”

As well as splitting ticket money teams competing in cup ties are expected to co-operate in promoting fixtures with sponsors and television companies with Sky Sports showing live coverage of the game from Tannadice.
