Parker: I fancied Fraser to save penalty

Gary Parker has revealed that he fancied Fraser Forster to save Tom Hateley’s penalty.

Despite being booked for correctly alerting referee Steven McLean to the fact that the ball wasn’t placed on the penalty spot the hoops keeper still pulled off a remarkable save to keep the scores level at 0-0.

Hateley had clearly given himself an additional advantage by placing the ball in front of the penalty spot but that counted for nothing when Forster threw himself high to the right to push the ball around the post for a corner, ensuring my Cherry Casino Bonus Code winnings weren’t wasted.

The whole incident seemed to galvanise Celtic with Gary Hooper netting the only goal of the game three minutes later but it was Forster that picked up the man-of-the-match honours.

“It was a great save from Fraser and that is why he is in the England squad,” Parker stated. “He is a great keeper and he has proved that and Gary Hooper scores goals and his general play is good.

“You always fancy him (Forster) at penalties, he’s a big lad and he’s a good goalie.”

Motherwell boss Stuart McCall added: “The greatest players in the world miss penalty kicks. I have to say if the keeper goes the right way, he is a such a good goalie with a big frame that nine times out of 10 he will stop it. I don’t think it is a bad penalty, I think it is a terrific save.”

Celtic started the match strongly but after failing to make an early breakthrough the tempo of their play died down with Motherwell defending in depth.

Tony Watt replaced Beram Kayal shortly before the penalty incident which saw Victor Wanyama and Forster both booked with Celtic collecting four bookings despite conceding just four fouls in the entire match.

Kris Commons and Georgios Samaras combined with Hooper for the only goal of the match with the striker sliding the ball home from eight yards out to extend Celtic’s lead at the top of the SPL table to nine points with a game in hand.
