Lennon deals with Commons

Neil Lennon has privately dealt with Kris Commons comments on Efe Ambrose.

Commons broke an unwritten dressing room rule not to criticise a team-mate in public following Celtic’s 3-0 defeat to Juventus.

There was no denying that Ambrose was at fault for two of the Juve goals but having that view aired by a team-mate is out of bounds.

Lennon said: “I have dealt with it internally. There will be no disciplinary action taken.

“Kris said things in the heat of the moment but it shows me he really cares about the club and team.

“He knows he shouldn’t be singling people out. We are a team, a unit. He has learned from that. I’ve dealt with it and we move on. I would imagine Kris has apologised privately.”

Despite the result on Tuesday Lennon insists that he has no regrets about selecting Ambrose.

“If I had my time over again, I would still pick him for the game,” the Celtic boss added.

“No one would have said a word if Efe had scored with the header to equalise, which he should have done.

“That is nothing to do with tiredness or fatigue. It’s just a bad miss. If he made it 1-1, no one would have questioned the selection or say it was madness to play him. That’s the fine lines managers walk on sometimes.

“Efe is alright. He was obviously very apologetic after the game. He made basic errors but it has coincided with his situation.”
