SFA won't take action on Berwick singing

Despite the embarrassment of having sectarian singing highlighted by ESPN at the weekend it appears that the SFA will take no action against Sevco.

Before the second half started at Berwick’s Shieldfield Park on Saturday Ray Stubbs was forced to issue an apology to viewers about the songs from the visiting support.

Midway through the second half a club statement referred to disappointment at inappropriate chanting while Ally McCoist described the singing as letting the club down a little bit.

He said: “Our fans have been fantastic home and away this season. I came off the park to be told the club have issued a statement. I back the club’s statement 100%.

“If there was some unsavoury chanting, they’ve probably let themselves down – and they’ve let us all down a little bit. I would be very hopeful it’s an isolated incident and we can move on.”

It certainly seems that the SFA are keen to move on with both the Daily Record and The Sun carrying stories this morning that no action will be taken.

Stewart Regan’s regime has been noted for it’s hands-off approach to any contentious issues with his proposed era of openess falling by the wayside like a Scotland World Cup qualifying campaign.

Not a word has came out of the SFA today other than the off the record briefing to the biggest selling newspapers to give an accurate steer on the likely course of inaction.

With no European action likely at Ibrox over the next few seasons the SFA can be assured that no outside football agency will highlight the issue of sectarian singing but the next Third Division fixture shown on ESPN should indicate what lessons, if any, have been learned.
