Barcelona and Spurs beckon for final bhoys

Celtic’s u-17 side are set to end the season in style at a youth tournament in Moscow against some of the biggest clubs in the game.

Tommy McIntyre’s side qualified for the final of the Glasgow Cup with a 1-0 win over Queens Park on Friday and have a final date to look forward to against Sevco.

Before then Celtic travel to Moscow for a tournament that will see the young hoops face upto some of the biggest names in European football.

After the win over Queens McIntyre said: “The final is something that we can look forward to but we go to Moscow next week where we’ll play against Barcelona, Spurs, Dinamo Kiev and Spartak Moscow.

“That will certainly whet the appetite of the players, it’s a great opportunity for them to play against real top quality sides.

“We’ve enjoyed the Glasgow Cup, it’s a great tournament to develop players in with points at stake and a place in the final to aim for. Queens Park made it difficult for us and have had a good tournament.

“I felt that we controlled the game, created some good chances but were lacking something with the final ball.

“It would have been a travesty if we hadn’t taken the points, it was fitting that we won the game with an outstanding goal from Paul McMullan. It was a real strikers goal with great pace and a good finish.”

Making a welcome return to action was goal-keeper Jordan Hart who has missed most of the season through injury.

McIntyre added: “Jordan is the Scotland youth international goalkeeper and has been out for a considerable length of time. He’s been great around the club during a frustrating time but he’s kept his head up and I’m delighted to see him back.

“I’m really pleased for him that he’s back playing again, he’s a hard worker and a good lad to have around.”
