Tony Watt and Lewis Toshney score for Scotland (video)

Tony Watt and Lewis Toshney were on the scoresheet last night as Scotland’s u-21 side beat Luxembourg 3-0 at St Mirren Park.

It was the third time this season that Watt has scored at the venue which should give Neil Lennon food for thought ahead of Sunday’s visit to Paisley.

The 19-year-old was on target in a 3-0 win over Luxembourg in September then scored the final goal in Celtic’s 5-0 win on October 20.

Last night’s win was the opening match in the 2014 European Championship trail with Scotland’s next fixture away to Holland.

It looked like the first half would end goal-less before Jamie Walker of Hearts stepped up to drill home the opening goal in stoppage time.

Twenty minutes into the second half Watt drove the ball high into the net from a close range indirect free kick with Toshney scoring late on to complete a comfortable victory.

After the match coach Billy Stark said: “It is important to get off to a winning start. The tournament is over a period of time which means some are playing and some aren’t.

“We have played the first game and got the three points on the board and it puts us top of the group.

“There were no other games being played but it is a good position to be in and it makes everyone feel confident.

“The next competitive game is going to be a real test against Holland but we played enough good football to stand up to higher quality opposition.”

Dylan McGeoch was also in the Scotland side. Tomorrow Celtic’s u-20 side take on St Johnstone at Alloa’s Recreation Park, kick off 3.30pm.
