Ref rage for former Celt

|

Malky Mackay Cardiff newsNeil Lennon wasn’t the only manager angry with weekend refereeing decisions.

Premiership-chasing Cardiff City looked on course for full points from Peterbrough on Saturday until the home side were awarded two penalties in the last seven minutes.

The Welsh side would have gone 11 points clear of third placed Watford with a victory but had that snatched away from them by referee Eddie Ilderton.

I spoke to the referee at half-time because every time the little lad (Dwight) Gayle was anywhere anyone, he was going down,” Mackay said.

“At any point the crowd were desperate for a penalty, they were desperate to get penalties today.

“I have looked at the first one, I have looked at it two or three times, and I’m still trying to see where Don Cowie touched their player.

“Don Cowie kicked the ball. His last touch was to kick the ball away and their player then falls over. And the referee gives a penalty.

“You watch it yourself. It’s not a penalty. So, I’m really disappointed with that one because, the two penalties apart, my goalkeeper didn’t have a stop to make.

“The second one is interesting because the lad is on his way down before Matty even plants his foot.

“He actually mis-controls the ball and kicks it away from him as well. Again, you know, for the referee to be up their end, so to speak, when their fans are behind the goal are claiming for another penalty.

“If he had given a third one that would have probably just capped the day off I suppose. You’d better ask the referee if he was swayed by the crowd, but it’s two poor decisions for two penalties.”

Cardiff are back in action today at home to Blackburn Rovers with Craig Bellamy set to return against one of his many former clubs.
