Thomas Rogne hasn’t given up on agreeing a new deal with Celtic.
The defender fell out of favour as the clock ticked down on his contract with Neil Lennon preferring to go with the partnership of Kelvin Wilson and Efe Ambrose.
Rogne signed a three and a half year deal during Tony Mowbray’s brief Celtic reign but has found his progress hampered by injury.
Celtic haven’t commented on the 22-year-old’s contract, which expires at the end of June, with Rogne blanking out his club situation as he prepares to play for Norway in the u-21 European Championship finals in Israel where Norway have been drawn alongside the host nation, Italy and England.
“The only thing to do is to play U21 Championship for Norway,” he replied after being asked where his future lies. “The rest we will take later.
“It’s (the European Championships) basically a perfect showcase. Doing well down there, it’s a very nice window. But it can go both ways, you could also make a bad championship.
“We have to have faith in their own abilities and faith in the system we have. It is a happy squad who like to play football and have good cohesion.
“England will be favourites to win our group but Israel will also be difficult, they have invested a lot in this squad because they are playing at home.”
Rogne started 13 games in the season just ended with his last appearance coming in the 3-1 defeat at Motherwell on April 28.
Paddy McCourt and Daryl Murphy are also out of contract. Anthony Stokes is expected to sign a new deal but Celtic have a 12 month option to extend his current contract.
Looks likely he will leave, which is a shame as he is a good defender but has never had a really good run in a team to show has worth and develop his skills. Hopefully he makes a good choice of next club and becomes a good player
He was ok, he was good in the air but too much long ball to no one for my liking. He’s still young enough to develop right enough.

He had one good game for us in a game against the club who were liquidated last season. That’s it. Apart from that he is a kd with potential, no more no less.
He looked at times like he might have it in him to be a classy European defender, but he’s been too injury-prone to warrant a wage increase. To my mind, he owes it to the club to stick around and prove he’s worth it, but no hard feelings if he heads to the English championship.
I’m sorry, this lad has had more chances than most but he just hasn’t proved himself. Sometimes you need to hold your hands up and say he’s just not good enough to play for Celtic.
As happened to big Hoovield I hope he gets another club and maybe improve his game.

He was the best of a bad centre halfs in the Mowbry era. Still, I think he has potential.

I always thought he would come good and still do, but injury has hampered both his progress and any real opportunity to assess or evaluate.
Of the other two mentioned, Efe for me the jury’s very much still out, he seems to have his full share of ‘an accident waiting to happen’ moments, but on the opposite side of the coin Kelvin must be The most improved players at CP. A season and a half ago I dreaded seeing his name on the team sheet, a ral accident………., now he’s one of the few shoo ins in the squad, proving to be as solid a defender as you’ll see in the UK.
I guess it’s a matter of getting the opportunities and making the most of them and being lucky enough to remain injury free long enough to prove your worth.
Imo, players, especially younger players, who spend extensive time out injured due to injuries picked up while actually playing in the Hoops should be given every opportunity to make time up and prove themselves.
On the other hand, if he’s looking for a big wage hike he can chase himself.
