Murray battles back as EGM request is confirmed
Earlier today in a statement to the AIM the crisis hit club confirmed that they had received a request to hold an EGM.
That action has been requested by the mysterious Blue Pitch group who hope to install Chris Morgan and controversial transport chief James Easdale on the board while removing Murray as chairman.
The statement to the AIM read: “The board of Rangers has noted the recent press speculation regarding a requisition for a General Meeting.
“The board confirms that it has received such correspondence and is seeking to establish the validity of this requisition. Further announcements will be made as appropriate.”
Murray’s decision to stand his ground will inevitably result in further mud slinging among the various vested interests at the club.
The under fire chairman is seen by many as an old style supporter keen to get the new club off on the right footing by following conventional business practices. It was Murray who ordered an investigation into Charles Green’s links to Craig Whyte.
Little is known about Blue Pitch Holdings but they seem to be backers of Green and have formed an alliance with the Easdale brothers who are expected to buy up Green’s shareholding in December.
If an EGM is called it will require the support of 51% of the shareholders to approve the motion to remove Murray.
In recent weeks both sides in the boardroom have been briefing their preferred media outlets as the dirt flies across the boardroom between different factions.
Meanwhile new chief executive Craig Mather has promised news on signing targets by the middle of next week, before resigning Green promised Ally McCoist a £10m warchest for transfers.
