SFA charge Brown as he restates walk away pledge

John Brown newsThe SFA are on a collision course with John Brown after offering the Dundee boss a one match suspension for ‘making comments in a media interview that criticise a decision and the performance of the match officials in such a way as to indicate incompetence.’

Brown branded Alan Muir’s decision to award Aberdeen a penalty a disgrace after Peter Pawlett dived to gain the Dons a penalty that led to Dundee’s relegation from the SPL.

Pawlett has been hit with a two match suspension for his dive but Brown now faces a showdown at Hampden with the Dens Park boss showing no sign of stepping away from his threat to walk away if he is punished by the SFA.

Asked if he stood by his threat to walk away Brown told the Dundee Courier: “Absolutely. If I am pulled up for making a comment about a guy taking a dive and the referee not acting on it . . .

“I am sure they will be acting in private with the referee. I am in my rights to say what I did. The bottom line is that I am acting in the best interests of Dundee Football Club.

“The fact that we are in the First Division now through a player who cheated us and officials that never dealt with it means people will be losing their jobs here.

“So if they feel they can ban me when I am sticking up for people who have to pay mortgages, I will not be accepting that. I think it would be deplorable if I got a ban for that. If they act, it sums up Scottish football at the moment.

“The lad has got previous. I think if the officials had done their homework they would have known that here was a guy who had taken dives in the past.

“So they would have known to watch out and be careful as he has conned other referees. I am sure down south, referees have been warned to look out for your Joey Bartons and people like that over the years.

“Surely officials should know who the dodgy characters are and to watch out for them.

“So if I was to be banned for making my comments where people are concerned about losing their jobs at this football club, then I will have nothing to do with Scottish football, I can tell you that.”

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

people losing there jobs.hmmm.that reminds me of a club that stroked more people than imperial tabacco.
hopefully the sfa and memory loss brown share the same fate as that doe’doe club.

Looking for a way out after taking his team down.
    Good plan Brown.

  • Joe Murray says:

A player taking a dive didn’t relegate Dundee, below par performances all season and the complete cluster f*** from last summer that meant the club was I’ll prepared for spl football, relegated Dundee.
I agree that if the beaks have banned the player then they admit that the referee got it wrong, so brown should not have to sit a ban. It’s basically saying, you were absolutely right about that decision bommer but we’re going to punish you anyway, no freedom of speech at Hampden.

  • Andy says:

He’s been in the job 5 minutes and he’s calling a fellow professional a cheat and slaughtering match officials but its only worth a 1 game ban.

  • paulybhoy says:

Maybe he should think back about his snide kick on tommy coyne

  • sands1888 says:

The lack of intelligence of these huns is beyond a joke, they are the biggest cheats in history of the game, on and off the pitch, a pure waste of skin that prick

  • HoudiniBhoy says:

I don’t like Brown one bit but he’s right with everything he’s said. However, whilst the penalty ultimately relegated Dundee it was the amount of defeats in the season that did for them.

If this was Neil Lennon getting offered this then there would be an outcry from our quarter and rightly so. It is time that managers stood up together and made their points about poor refereeing. The amount of shocking decisions of late has been unbelieveable, especially in our last two games!!

    • Jack Meldrum says:

Totally agree with your comments HoudiniBhoy.
There is no freedom of speech allowed here. I just wish someone would take these clowns at the SFA through a legal path & stop this nonsense.

    • Joe says:

Thats never going to happen because they are all on one side and we are on the other. Lennon is targeted. There is no doubt about it. Why do you think he is considering a move out of small-minded Scotland?
Scottish soccer is corrupt from the sfa down. they do have the powers to target anyone connected with Celtic especially when it can divert attention from the corruption they covered up during the past twelve or so years.
The sfa are the laughing stock of world soccer.

Purely on the basis of involvement in the game.

    On a serious note.
I agree entirely with his sentiments. Its a stain having diving so commonplace and to charge a manager with commenting on the blantantly poor standard of officiating is farcical.
If it was a different team I would say fair enough. But as mentioned above, they were there unexpectedly so if anything, should their books not look better than forecast this time last year?
Did they get the news of promotion and spend a bundle as a result?
    Same pool, no?
Increased crowds and gate receipts, sponsorship, etc. How can people be losing their jobs after making more money in a season than they likely have the last few years?
If its players, Sell them. If they are free agents, well tyats the nature of the game. They surely couldnt have expected to stay up that much considering they didn’t expect to be there in the first place place.

No methinks Brown is just venting cos he’s a thug with not a lot of smarts and he is trying to deflect. The fact is barry smith should never have binned considering they lucked out this season, relegation or not. Can’t argue with browns record since he got there but at the expense of someone who didn’t deserve the sack. We’ll see how he fares next season

  • mick says:

I think mr brown has a good case but why don’t Dundee see how mutch it will cost them and sue the ref or linesman or both for giving a poor service after all they do get paid a good wage that may stop all the officials from making the big mistakes or how would it be if they sued the player as as it could be fraud or the players employers .at the end of the day nl has had some silly bans that it beggars belief to the sfa get yourselfs a life the person that dived 6 match ban 50k fine to be paid to Dundee that could stop diving

  • Jimmy1940 says:

John Brown remarking on the referee’s performance was proved correct and by tv .SFA select them for each game so if they have watched the TV replay must know J.Brown is correct in what he has said, so why punish the man. They should be apologising instead. HH.

  • Andyb says:

Lets get it straight brown. Why why can you blame one player, one ref and one game when your team was s*** the other 35 games. So please just get yourself off to div 1. Bye.

  • eastside says:

Hold on a minute, wasn’t this man crying to Tom English that criticising him in the media led to death threats for board members at Dundee? Now he’s publically accusing a player of ‘cheating’ Dundee and causing them to be relegated? Zoomer Broon, you and Rangers were made for each other. Unfortunately Rangers died choking on it’s on vomit, but it’s Tribute Act is just as suitable.
