Walter Smith Rangers newsWalter Smith is believed to be on the brink of walking away from Ibrox.

The former Rangers manager accepted a non-executive directorship from Charles Green in November shortly before the launch of the Rangers International share issue.

Green and side-kick Imran Ahmed have since stepped down from their day-to-day duties but remain board members and are believed to have engineered a vote of no confidence in chairman Malcolm Murray.

Leaks are pouring out of the fabled blue room of dignity with Smith believed to be one of Murray’s few backers.

Although Murray was appointed chairman by Green the two men quickly drifted apart with Murray concerned by some of Green’s tactics which appear to be at odds with the long term sustainability of the new club.

Following media claims by Craig Whyte chairman Murray ordered an investigation into links between Green and Whyte with the outspoken Yorkshireman standing down as chief executive soon after.

Green was fined £2,500 last week by the SFA for racist comments about Ahmed and is also the subject of an SFA investigation into his links with Whyte.

The former Motherwell born billionaire is banned from any role in Scottish football but recently claimed that Green is his front man with the man from Yorskshire recorded on tape as saying Whyte is Sevco.

In July the SFA negotiated a complex five way agreement to provide Green with associate membership with one of those conditions being that Whyte had no stake in the new club.

With the Ibrox boardroom split down the middle the next revelations from Whyte could have a devastating effect on the club- and those that granted them associate membership of the SFA.

For somebody who says he doesn’t do walking away, Sir Walter has done a fair bit of walking away in his career. Although I suppose when he abandoned Scotland, he sprinted away, so that might not count.

walter ready to walk away why not wait until sevco5088 or whatever they are called die and bury them with there famous dignity

  • Starman Jinky says:

Lets get this right…….Green has links with Whyte……..Murray exposes Green and orders an inquiry……..The Sevco board call for Murray to step down? As the potato wedge on Film 4 always says….”I’m lost here”……
Obviously getting rid of the Chairman is less painful than the truth coming out……Typical Sevco.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

Coming up is a potential watershed for Scottish football……

Let me start by saying …if it’s PROVED that Whyte was lying …and he has no link with Green whatsoever ( and I personally don’t believe that to be the case)……then that’s fair enough.

If ,however, (and this I do believe to be correct)….he was in cahoots with Whyte….then The Govan Club were awarded their Associate Membership fraudulently…..and it must be removed.

    The problem is….Will it be…?

For over a century now this Club has been ” protected” and “sheltered” (Sectarian signing policy anyone..?)…by those who run the game….and we were none the wiser.

In today’s Internet world however…there’s no hiding place….and it will be interesting,to say the least, to see what the Authorities do.

If the Govan Club is awarded another License…after a Whyte connection has been proved…Then there is no shred of credibility left in Scottish football….and it will also prove what we have known all along…and that is….

    We’re not paranoid after all.

Smith is the worst of the lot. He struts around in his brown brogues believing he epitomizes dignity, loyalty and honour, yet he was the 1st rat to jump ship leaving Fat Chops Mcoist the cabin boy to get on with it! He went into hiding to protect himself and his own interests whilst Rangers was plundered and desecrated. How anyone could respect this snake of a man is beyond me, all he wants is to ensure he has a decent pension out of it and a place where he can have his ego massaged.
