Video action of Dayton Claasen

Neil Lennon has confirmed that midfielder Daylon Claasen is training with Celtic.

The 23-year-old was recently released by Belgian side Lierse and has also spent time training with Everton.

Claasen came to the attention of Celtic’s scouting network with Lennon keen to see the player at close quarters before making any decision.

The Celtic boss said: “He was at Lierse and at Everton recently. He also had a week in Germany and then a week with us.

“We do get a few offers to bring players in, we try to see if we like the player and can we do it logistically? There will be no more coming in between now and the end of the season.

“Next week is all about the squad that we have and preparing for the cup final.”

The main topic up for discussion today was the financial plight of Hearts who looks certain to go into administration without the safety blanket of Duff and Phelps.

Any administration would have a brutal effect on the club with liquidation likely to follow soon after.

“We would be losing probably the third biggest club,” Lennon said looking at the situation at Tynecastle.

“We have already lost the second biggest so it doesn’t look good. It is a pretty sad situation. It is a great club with a great tradition and this time last year they were in a cup final.

“I don’t know, the powers-that-be will maybe have contingency plans in place. I don’t know if another club will be promoted, Morton maybe, I don’t know. I only became of aware of the serious nature of it late last night.

“I don’t have a crystal ball, I don’t know what sort of damage it will do to the SPL, but there will be an outcry. Hearts have a decent support for a club in Scotland and to lose that would be pretty damaging.”
