Brown injury boost

Scott Brown should be fit for Celtic’s first Champions League qualifier in mid-July.

The midfielder pulled out of the Scotland squad to face Croatia on Friday prompting fears that he could be facing another long lay off.

Brown returned from surgery to play in Celtic’s last three matches of the season and has been ordered to take a complete rest for a month.

That should see him fit and well to resume pre-season training on June 20 as Celtic prepare for the three qualifying ties which will hopefully see them return to the Champions League.

With James Forrest also pulling out of the Scotland squad uncapped Tony Watt will be the only Celtic player in the squad to take on Croatia.

The home side certainly aren’t lacking in confidence with striker Ivica Olic expecting to make it five defeats in a row for the visitors.

He said: “We need to take this seriously and win by at least two or three goals. In the end, it could be that goal difference is going to be crucial.”

Over in New York yesterday Emilio Izaguirre suffered a set-back as Honduras lost 2-0 to Israel in a friendly.

Rami Gershon was in the Israeli side that defeated Honduras who have three World Cup qualifiers coming up in the next fortnight.

On Friday Honduras travel to meet Costa Rica before hosting Jamaica then traveling again to face the USA who beat Germany 4-3 last night.
