Ibrox target opts for Preston

Chris Humphrey’s is set to reject an offer from Sevco to join League One outfit Preston North End.

The Jamaican was one of Ally McCoist’s top summer targets but has snubbed the opportunity to move to Ibrox in favour of Preston.

Humphrey’s started 32 of Motherwell’s SPL matches last season as the Fir Park side finished second in the SPL.

Despite seeing team-mate Nicky Law move to Ibrox Humphrey’s has decided to move south and is expected to sign a three year deal for Preston today.

While the Ibrox side have missed out on Humphrey’s they have announced the signing of Arnold Peralta on a four year deal.

Peralta will require a work permit to play in Scotland which will require the backing of the Scottish football authorities.

One of the key criteria for issuing a work permit is if the applicant is of a quality not currently available to the club.

With Sevco playing in the third tier of Scottish football it shouldn’t be too difficult to find a player of equal quality with most First Division and SPL midfielders falling into that category.

Providing the Honduran with a work permit would escalate another issue with SFL clubs only allowed to register 22 players over the age of 21.

The recent spending spree that has brought in Cammy Bell, Nicky Clark, Jon Daly and Law alongwith the return of Dorin Goian and Carlos Bocanegra means that McCoist will have 26 players over the age of 21.

At the weekend Steve Lovell of the SPFA warned members against playing as trialists before the registration ban is lifted on September 1.
