Lennon: We’ll welcome Victor back with open arms

Neil Lennon has promised Victor Wanyama that there is a warm welcome waiting for him back at Celtic.

While Spanish based agent Ivan Modia attempts to flog his client to wherever he’ll get the highest commission Wanyama has kept quiet in the background awaiting developments.

Modia’s failure to secure a deal that suits himself has resulted in Celtic being blamed for the stalemate with clubs now wary of negotiating with Wanyama’s middleman.

Aware of the course of events Lennon would be delighted to welcome the highly rated 22-year-old back to Celtic as the club gears up for some crucial Champions League qualifiers.

“If the deal doesn’t go through, if it collapses or no other offers come in, we will welcome Victor back with open arms,” Lennon revealed. “There has not been one day when he has said he is unhappy here. He is actually very happy here.

“The kid is probably feeling stuck in the middle of things. He hasn’t done anything wrong in our eyes.

“It is a bit of a stand-off at the minute and you hope it can be resolved in the next week or so.”

Lennon added: “My own gut feeling is a deal will get done but I’d like to emphasise the relationship between me and the player has never changed and the relationship between the club and the player hasn’t changed.

“It’s been a bit petty and unnecessary these last couple of days.”

Celtic step up their pre-season preparations on Monday when they travel to Germany where they will play four matches ahead of the first competitive game of the season against Cliftonville.
