Murray hangs on in Ibrox boardroom war

Malcolm Houdini Murray has engineered yet another stay of execution on the board of Rangers International.

A call for an EGM to remove the veteran banker was made last month backed by the Easdale brothers and Blue Pitch holdings who both want board representation.

The EGM should have been announced by now but talks are going on between the warring factions to try and strike a compromise.

A stock market announcement this morning said: “On May 16, 2013, the company announced that it had received a notice requisitioning a general meeting of shareholders.

“The company is engaged in discussions with a representative of the requisitioning shareholder and the timetable for posting a notice to shareholders has been extended with the agreement of the requisitioning shareholder.

“Further announcements will be made as appropriate.”

An EGM would bring all the infighting into full public view with many of the mysterious backers having to show face.

Murray was replaced as chairman last week by Walter Smith but has stubbornly hung onto his place on the board despite having two votes of no confidence passed.

London based Murray is seen as an old school supporter determined to ensure that the newco don’t go the same way as the old club which went into liquidation almost a year ago after being unable to agree a CVA with it’s debtors.

With Charles Green and Imran Ahmad trying to drive a profit for investors Murray and Smith are attempting to ensure that football matters are given priority.

The shadow of Sevco 5088 hangs over the new club with Green admitting last week in a radio interview that the dispute with Craig Whyte over assets could drag on for a decade or more.

Malky is no relation to former Rangers owner Dave, former director Paul or former chief scout Neil.
