Carlos Bocanegra and Dorin Goian have negotiated lucrative pay offs from Sevco.
Agreements were reached yesterday with the highly paid duo meaning that Lee McCulloch and Lee Wallace are the only remaining first team players to have TUPE’d over from Rangers.
Bocanegra and Goian started last season on the journey but after failing to find a club willing to pay a transfer fee they were sent out on loan to lower division clubs in Spain and Italy.
Both players were signed by Ally McCoist in 2011 on three year contracts believed to be worth close to £20,000 a week.
The loss of the defenders is a double blow for McCoist in terms of his defensive and budget plans for the new season.
Speaking earlier this week the Ibrox boss said: “Let’s be honest about it – they are two international-quality centre-backs and I’d be delighted if they came back.
“They’d be like new signings. That’s exactly what they’d be like and of a great pedigree at that.
“I’d be very hopeful and we’ll certainly know in the next couple of weeks if the boys are coming back. If they are, I’ll be delighted.”
A club statement tonight said: “After discussions in the last few days, both men are now free to pursue their careers elsewhere having terminated their deals in Glasgow a year early.”
Bocanegra is expected to return to North America with clubs in Canada and the USA reportedly keen to sign the player with Goian’s agent hopeful of setting up a deal in England without the complications of a transfer fee involved.
