tynecastleControversial pay day lenders Wonga have stepped in to make a significant contribution towards saving Hearts.

With increasing pressure being put on pay day lenders to be regulated Wonga have agreed to make an early payment for their shirt sponsorship deal with Hearts.

The Edinburgh side are currently in administration needing around £600,000 to see them through to the start of the season.

Over 1,200 season tickets have been sold since the club went into administration with the early payment from Wonga making it look likely that the club will reach the start of the season.

Hearts director David Southern said: “Wonga have shown an exceptional and unprecedented show of faith in our time of need.

“I cannot speak highly enough of how they have worked with us over the term and again when we have needed them most.

“Throughout, they have made themselves available and been straightforward and speedy to deal with. We are optimistic that their money added to our strong season ticket sales will go a long way to keeping the club going while we look for a suitable buyer.

“The investment they are making dramatically improves our immediate situation but the speed with which they have moved should provide other corporate partners with the confidence to come forward and help alongside them.”

Darryl Bowman, Marketing Director, Wonga, added: “We are a proud supporters of Hearts, and we want to do everything we can to help during this turbulent period.

“We are making this payment with our eyes wide open. Naturally, there’s risk attached but Hearts needs everyone to pull together. If other commercial partners follow our lead, we are optimistic that the fans and football will get the result we all want – a sustainable and competitive Hearts.”

Should they make it through to the start of the season Hearts will start the new campaign with a penalty of 15 points.

The problem I have with this is….
I hate the Club that I call….. “Huns without the train-fare”……and from a football view-point….I hope they suffer.
As always ‘though there will be “lower-paid” people who relied heavily on their wage from Hearts to survive….and I feel sorry for them.
But as other Clubs…. who won tainted titles and trophies they couldn’t actually afford….
    have discovered…the Grim Reaper awaits.

You are right with your comment–the huns[ibrox] cheated those titles and cups, cheating scumbags.

  • Sweeney Hughes says:

When we were cheated out of CL football by the lying cheating thieving benefit cheats three seasons ago, when the lying cheating snidy sleekit fat boy humiliated watties multi million pound ‘honest mistake’ champions and Scottish football, (VERY) effectively killing the huns, I’m sure the millions hertz were cheated out of by the lying cheating thieving benefit cheats, by way of a Europa league slot, would have come in handy about now.

Scotland needs a strong rangers indeed.

Can’t believe Celtic fans having sympathy for that mob it makes me sick, they are Celtic haters of the highest order total scumbags who would dance on our grave given half a chance HH

    • Sweeney Hughes says:

      Sympathy?

If you’re refering to me Mark, you’re very much mistaken.

No mate not you, guys on other threads HH

Tbh Mark, although at the end of the day they are huns and whatever happens to them is to be enjoyed to the full, ‘hell slap it into them’ as they say, I really can’t think of a better rivalry if they survive.
Cultural opposites, two sides of the Scottish religious coin, the Catholic charitable ethos V the protestant sense of entitlement, the Silky Celts V the thugs, The Glasgow Tims V the Edinburgh huns.
          It’s all there.
I’m sure we hate them as much as they hate us…PERFECT!
As has been pointed out, they never stole our cash, swindled money intended for sick children, never begged on the street like ..well..beggars, weren’t given our Euro licences, never ripped of charities and as far as I know don’t sing vile son
chants about people dying of cancer.
They fecked up on their taxes, for which they will pay in full, there will be no 5ways agreement, no cries about ‘the good of Scottish football’, no agenda and corruption at hampden to see them ok, they will take their punishment.
I know all about fair play, but if individual clubs falling behind with the taxman was all Scottish football had to worry about, worrying enough though it is for the individual clubs, Scottish football would be all the better for it.
And anyway, since when were we so worried about auld lizzie getting her dosh?

At the end of the day, when/if we play them again, when we’re chanting out ‘Go Home Ya Huns’ after giving them a stout thumping, we know they’re going home to Edinburgh and not roaming the Streets of the Dear Green Place like their murderous cowardly scumbag cousins.

Surely if they get half a million or so from Wonga they’ll just end up in deeper shit than now. In 6 months time that’ll be about £50 million they’d have to pay back. Hail hail.

  • williebhoy says:

There is no question that Scottish football will be much poorer without a decent Hearts side, they have always provided formidable opposition long before Romanov appeared on the scene. We need strong challenges from the likes of Hibs – Aberdeen – Dundee Utd & if they get their act together in a couple of years time Hearts. Both ICT & Ross County have shown what can be done on very limited resources and small crowds.

I’ll leave all this hatred to others…it’s a game of football, fans are passionate about their clubs but it’s still just a game & some good people rely on clubs like Hearts for a living.

I hope they survive, great to see true fans rally round in time of need for THEIR club.

    • Mark says:

Pass me the sick bag, these true fans your on about hate you hate Celtic and everything we are, don’t waste your pity on them HH

      • williebhoy says:

Yes sure Mark….I know a lot of Hearts fans and even been in their end at Celtic games….passionate about THEIR club. All this crap about hatred & sectarian bigotry does nothing for me.

Of course you seem to know EVERY single hearts fan personally so I bow to your superior knowledge….nah instead I’ll agree to disagree & wish Hearts well, hope to see them competing again, loved beating them on the last day of the season at Paisley, or the last minute cup winner or…….but then I’m obviously not a true football fan 🙂
