Defender flies in to Germany

Emilio Izaguirre has arrived in Germany to join in Celtic’s pre-season preparations.

The defender was on World Cup duty with Honduras until June 19 but after a fortnight on holiday he’s preparing for the new season and the challenge of helping Celtic through to the group stage of the Champions League.

Neil Lennon is looking to bring in a left sided player to challenge Izaguirre for his place in the Celtic side but after three seasons at the club the Honduran has no intention to moving aside or moving on.

“My contract runs until 2015 and any change would be upto my club and my agent,” he told Honduran newspaper la Trubuna. “I don’t like talking about contracts, my focus is on playing football.

“After two weeks holiday it’s time to get back to work and prepare for important games in the Champions League.

“Our first game is in Ireland with the aim of reaching the Champions League again, I’ll never forget playing against Barcelona and Juventus and we want to be playing teams like that again.

“The rest of the squad has been in training for 10 days but after my holiday I’m feeling good and looking forward to starting work again.”

Izaguirre and the other returning internationalists will be put on a separate fitness programme in Germany from the players who’ve already been working out at Lennoxtown.
