Neil Lennon has revealed that Celtic have turned down offers for Georgios Samaras.
The hoops boss has lost Victor Wanyama and Gary Hooper from his double title winning squad as he prepares for another tilt at the Champions League.
Samaras was one of the stars of last season’s Champions League campaign and is a certain starter against Elfsborg on Wednesday following on from scoring in both legs against Cliftonville.
The former Manchester City man has a year left on his contract with offers starting to come in to lure him away from Celtic.
Discussing the transfer window Lennon admitted: “When you get offers of the magnitude of Victor Wanyama and with Gary having a year left on his contract it made a lot of sense considering the kid wasn’t really pushing buttons to stay.
“We’ve had bids in for other players and we’ve rejected them. We’ve had a few in for Georgios Samaras in particular and he intimated he wanted to stay and we weren’t in a great rush to sell him anyway.
“So it’s not always the case that we have to sell or we want to sell but when it’s really good business for us then it’s sensible to do that. We have to safeguard the future of the club.
“You know we might not always get Champions League football, we know how difficult the economic climate is.”
Lennon is on the look out for a replacement for Hooper who joined Norwich on Monday following interest from QPR and Hull City.

Viktor Fischer is rated much higher than £3m and Ajax rate him way we rated Wanyama. Would take silly money for them to sell. About 15m euros.

Aye there’s nae chance were getting Fischer. Wish it was true but I doubt its him. Good to hear he’s over that neck of the woods though. Some quality prospects over there in Holland.

If you read everything that’s reported then apparently we are in talks with three wingers, four strikers and a couple of centrebacks…
oh aye, don’t forget we will be losing ledley, mathews, izzy, wilson, foster, kayal, stokes and forrest… on the upside, looks like big Sammy will hanging around for a bit longer…
Regardless of who we go for any team we approach will be aware of our financial situation being somewhat flush with CL income and players sales so albeit Ficher might float around the 2.5/3 million mark, clubs will be expecting Celtic to pay that extra few hundred thousand notes to land their man….
Its gonna be an interesting few days especially as Lenny has said he still wants 2 or 3 more players but I definately expect a creative winger and a goal scorer as Amido Balde evidently wasn’t purchased for his ability to strike fear into the oppoition with fearless dribbling although im not sure if he was purchased to hold the ball up either…

In total agreement, gutted to lose GH and VW but would be far more gutted to lose Joe Ledley and Sammi.
We are neil lennon … our manager is not daft if its good for celtic believe in him we have some great talent comming throu the youth squad feel its a great chance to give them the experince do we need another striker ! Maybe invest in a few quality defenders come on lets get behind lennon … hail hail

There are some reports that we have signed a striker in Boerigter. But i think he is a winger. We now need a striker that will score 25+ goals a season, a left back, a centre back and a strong centre mid to replace Vic
