Neil Lennon flagNeil Lennon wants to unleash a new striker on Elfsborg on Wednesday night.

The Celtic boss lost Gary Hooper to Norwich yesterday and was unable to bring in any new faces for Thursday’s third round transfer deadline.

UEFA allow one player to be added to the squad by 11pm on Tuesday with Lennon’s attention turned to bringing in a striker to help replace the departed Hooper.

“We’ll definitely try for one or two strikers,” the Celtic boss revealed. “We’re working away at that, though it’s easier said than done. We’re allowed to bring in one before Wednesday. I’m hopeful it’ll be done over the weekend.

“If we can get him here, see how he is in training, then I’d imagine he’d be in the squad. The one we’re looking at hasn’t been mentioned.”

Lennon added: “Saber Khelifa ( of French side Evian)is an option. You could throw names at me all day and they’d be possibilities. There’s a list of options that we have and Khelifa is one that has come up and we were in for Doyle in January.

“I don’t want to talk about players who are contracted with other clubs. If and when we bring a player in I’m sure you’ll know about it before me!

“Rudnevs (Artjoms of Hamburg) is a player we really like but that one’s looking more and more distant.”

Lennon will watch fifth placed Elfsborg in action today away to Atvidiberg who are a point behind last season’s champions.

No. He explicitly said he didn’t want a Scotland call up. Of course he will have more chance of a cap in the premiership. This is when Celtic fans embarrass themselves with comments like this
