Victor Wanyama’s return to Celtic

Victor Wanyama will rejoin Celtic tomorrow in Germany.

The midfielders future has been at the centre of debate over the last few weeks with Cardiff City and Southampton both keen to take him to the Premiership.

Celtic have already agreed a fee with Southampton but the ‘deal’ didn’t get off the ground when the players agent, Ivan Modia, went public criticising the personal terms on offer.

Neil Lennon responded to Modia’s criticism of how Celtic had acted but crucially little has been heard of from the player himself.

Celtic can’t afford to turn down a £10m profit on a player signed two years ago from Belgium with Lennon’s man management skills about to be tested as he attempts to find a satisfactory outcome for all parties concerned.

Speaking after last night’s friendly with Sevastapol the Celtic manager said: “There are a couple of clubs still in the mix but nothing has been done yet. Cardiff are in but they’ve not made a concrete offer.

“I’m not convinced the terms of the offer they’re looking at is what we want. They’re going to come again, I think, but as things stand he’s our player.

“We’ll see him when he joins up with us and take it from there. We accepted one bid previously and that’s the level we’re looking at. Southampton may come back so I wouldn’t rule them out.”

Wanyama was given an extended break due to his international commitments with Kenya.

So far no clubs involved in the Champions League have admitted to an interest in the midfielder which could allow the 22-year-old to be involved in Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers.
