Does any Celtic fan care? Apparently the Auld Enemy play each other at Wembley tonight in a friendly of incredible significance.
Scott Brown believes that leading out Gordon Strachan’s side will be a bigger thrill than captaining Celtic against Juventus in the Champions League. Really?
Going even further Mark McGhee claims that scoring against England in the 1984 British Championship was a bigger career highlight than being in the Aberdeen team that beat Real Madrid the previous year to win the European Cup Winners Cup!
In an age of media hype and build up it’s understandable to talk everything up but who are Brown and McGhee trying to kid?
It’s 15 years since Scotland last qualified for a major tournament, you’ll find short odds on the SFA blazers enjoying another continental jolly this side of 2018 as last night’s u-21 result demonstrated.
While England are regular qualifiers for World Cup’s and European Championship’s equally predictable is their departure at the quarter-final stage, generally in a penalty shoot out.
While Brown and McGhee get worked up into a frenzy for tonight’s match Neil Lennon has only one wish- that his players survive tonight’s match without injury.
Next Tuesday Celtic travel to face Shakhter Karagandy in a game of much more significance. Securing an aggregate victory over the Kazakhstan champions will be much more meaningful for Celtic, Brown and Scottish football.
Every club in the top division will receive a payment from UEFA if Celtic repeat last season’s achievements while Celtic can look to bring in £20m plus from reaching the group stage.
To do that the only significance of tonight’s match is that the Celtic players come through the game without injury.
After that it’s onto Pittoddrie on Saturday before the two matches that will make or break Celtic’s season- not a friendly international kickabout.

Disgusting article, used to enjoy this site but lost all the respect I had for the editor.
That’s funny ‘jimmy’, first post eh?

Plenty posts mate, All pretty positive up until now, But you are obviously right so I will humbly apologise.
Ffs Jimmy ye sound like a wee lassy there.
Fkn Callimero!
What exactly was ‘disgusting’about this article?
There are many different reasons for any supporters of any team not wanting to see their key players risk injury in pointless internationals FOR ANY COUNTRY so early in the season and for us with crucial CL games less than a week away.
So wtf is your problem?
If you want to see things, or imply certain things, that obviously are not there, I would suggest that’s your problem.
Me?
As I’ve stated, I don’t give a monkeys chuff what international team they play for, my only concern is for Celtic and the players WE pay millions of pounds for, tranfer fees, wages, coaching and investing time and money making them the players they are.
JFK was one of the best prospects in Brittish football, if not European football and his football playing career was snuffed out in exactly such a match.
We’ve had players like big Sammi, McGeady, Naka, And Boruc, amongst many others, halted in their season at key times for the club that pays their way during international duty, and I’ll repeat because you’re obviously hard of thinking, I don’t care whether they’re playing for Ireland, Scotland, England or Ulan Bator!
If that disgusts you, well, you can fuck off and peddle your bullshit elsewhere.
