Juan Agudelo newsJuan Agudelo will join Stoke City in January.

The American striker had a spell training with Celtic last November but a deal couldn’t be worked out with Chivas USA.

Agudelo also spent time training with West Ham in January and will move to Stoke when his Chivas USA contract expires.

“We’ve put a lot of work into this deal, and I am delighted that we have managed to get the deal over the line,” Mark Hughes said.

“It’s a good deal for us, because he is a very good young player who boasts a lot of talent as well as a lot of potential too.

“I’ve known of him for a couple of years now. He burst on to the scene for the United States at the age of 17 and everybody has paid attention to him since.”

Agudelo spent ten days training with Celtic with Neil Lennon keeping tabs on the striker when he returned to the USA.

Following his stint at Lennoxtown the Celtic boss said: “Juan is someone we like, we have made tentative approaches.”

During his time at Celtic Agudelo admitted: “I know the history, it’s basically a religion for many.

“Just to have that there and have the support of the whole city would be lovely. Especially due to the fact they are consistently Champions League.

“Being in the group stage of the Champions League is huge. We’ll see what happens, I’d have to consider a lot of things but definitely, Celtic is a great club.”

Lennon is believed to be looking to sign two new strikers before the transfer window closes with Kevin Doyle of Wolves one of his top targets.
