Kevin Doyle newsWolves boss Kenny Jackett has admitted that his club can’t afford Kevin Doyle.

The striker is believed to be Neil Lennon’s number one striking target after a loan deal in January fell through at the last minute.

With Wolves relegated to League One former Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths is being given his chance with Jackett surprisingly honest about the reason for Doyle’s non-appearance.

“In terms of Kevin generally, his wages are too high for League One where we are,” the Wolves boss stated.

“To sum his situation up he is not somebody that I have pushed to one side or overlooked but he is in a situation where I haven’t been planning with him because the expectation is that I was thinking he would go.

“He is not match fit but with the injuries we picked up today it will be an interesting one in terms of him coming on and being able to contribute.

“Between now and the end of the window there will be interest in him but, in the meantime, he is not somebody that I am necessarily going to close the door on – if he is right and available for selection and the team needs him.

“It’s maybe a little bit of everything, coming off the back of some speculation in the summer things have gone quite quiet. Coming into the club he (Doyle) is not someone that I necessarily planned or thought would really be around.

“I focused on other people but when suddenly you pick up a few injuries you have to make sure that you use all of your squad. And if that is needed, then you do it.”

Don’t want him at Celtic. Not a prolific goalscorer. 27 goals in 135 appearance for Wolves says it all.

Doyle is not a bad player, wolves have been struggling for a few years now with most of the team not playing well, so it’s bound to have a knock on effect on certain players,

He would score lots of goals in Glasgow& has plenty of European experience playing for Ireland, also at a low transfer price it would be a good deal, let’s face it we spent £2m on Bangura &£2m on Balde.

We can’t afford him, either…and I don’t mean financially. We need a quality striker. Doyle doesn’t fit that profile. Good luck to the lad, but he’s not for me, unless he’s cover for Miku or Lassad. He’s certainly not first choice material.

We have Watt, Balde, Stokes & they should be enough for the domestic game, at present the only option we have for Europe is big Samaras, so we need not a Doyle but a quality goalscorer, preferably with a bit of European or international experience.

It’s about time we started blooding in our development squad domestically, surely we have players who itching to get their opportunity. What’s the point having a development squad if we only use them once or twice a season, get them involved domestically giving them the experience instead of wasting money on individuals like the Doyles, Mikus, lassads, etc etc.

Why not blood our own players from our youth getting them involved domestically giving them the experience instead of wasting money on individuals like the Doyles, Mikus, lassads, etc etc.

I really cant see what NL sees in Doyle there is no logic to signing him his goal stats are abysmal, I’d imagine his wages would be at the top end of our pay structure and he does not offer anything better than what we have already got in abundance upfront, what we need is an out and out striker that fits out current transfer policy.

I reckon the outcome of tomorrows game will determine who we will be bringing in, when we beat Elfsborg I think Doyle will he forgotten about
