Big two back from injury to face Ajax

Kris Commons and Georgios Samaras will be in the Celtic side to face Ajax on Wednesday night.

Both players sat out the 1-1 draw with Dundee United but will be crucial to Neil Lennon’s plans in the Amsterdam Arena.

Commons missed the home match against the Dutch side due to a hamstring strain while Samaras required four stitches in a knee injury picked up against Partick Thistle.

Having the experienced duo fit and well will give Celtic a massive boost ahead of 90 minutes that will go a long way towards shaping the clubs’ European prospects for the season.

“Kayal will be fit, Georgios Samaras and Kris Commons will be fit, so we’ll be a lot stronger on Wednesday,” Lennon explained after the draw with Jackie McNamara’s side.

“I know some of them are a little short because of the injury problems we’ve had but (Mikael) Lustig will come through okay so I’ll take a point.

“It preserves the unbeaten record which obviously we’re very proud of but we were a bit flat and certainly in the final third we need to do better.

“We had umpteen chances, we had three off the line in the first half and so much dominance in the second half. And we were sloppy.

“That comes down to my team selection but we made the changes when we had to and got the goal we deserved.

“We’ve had a heavy, heavy load of games, but I’m not using that as an excuse.

“The only excuse or criticism is my team selection. Don’t blame the players today.”

Ajax lost 1-0 at home to Vitesse thanks to a last minute goal from Valeri Qazaishvili. Frank de Boer’s side are sitting in fourth place with 19 points from 12 matches.
