Lennon pleased by Champions League lift

Neil Lennon is looking forward to Tuesday’s Champions League clash with AC Milan following Celtic’s morale boosting win over Aberdeen.

Stoppage time goals from Derk Boerrigter and Kris Commons gave the hoops full points after Niall McGinn cancelled out Commons’ 36th minute opener in additional time played in the first half.

Those stoppage time goals lifted the mood around Celtic Park with Lennon looking to take the dividend into Tuesday’s clash with the Italian giants.

“Psychologically, today it gives us a massive lift,” the hoops boss admitted. “We won our home game against Ajax and played very well in the San Siro.

“Milan will be different, they have a couple of players back so all the ingredients are there.”

Boerrigter’s goal was the first since he moved from Ajax in the summer with the winger giving Lennon food for thought ahead of Tuesday’s match.

The Dutchman put in a succession of inviting crosses after replacing Teemu Pukki in the 64th minute before showing his team-mates the road to goal by converting from close range after Jamie Langfield had parried a header from Virgil van Dijk.

“I am delighted now and can’t wait to get more goals,” Boerrigter said. “But my first priority is to get fit again, to be at the level that I used to play and hopefully I can get more minutes.

“I am not entirely over my ankle injury but we are working hard to get there.

“It has been a long time. Before I came here I had the injury and I got a lot of kicks on it here. I got time off to recover and that helped and I am feeling better now.”
