The Green Brigade have issued a statement following the vandalism at Fir Park on Friday night.
Over 100 seats were wrecked in deliberate acts of vandalism that has sickened the wider Celtic support and brought shame on the club.
Those that were involved in the vandalism have still to be identified. It would be lazy to say that it was down to the Green Brigade but naive to think that they are not providing an umbrella for neds and thugs to hide under and transfer their anti-social behaviour into football grounds.
It would also be naive to claim that the thugs at Fir Park are not Celtic supporters but after Friday night no cover will be given by the club or supporters to thugs tarnishing the club’s name under the claim of bringing atmosphere or ultra support to Celtic matches.
A statement on the Green Brigade website read: “Following the events of Friday night’s match against Motherwell at Fir Park, the Green Brigade would like to clarify our position on a couple of issues.
“Firstly we do not condone the breaking of seats nor do we welcome pyrotechnics being thrown on the park. We as a group are as disappointed as any about such indefensible behaviour and regret that it happened on our watch.
“Whilst it was not members of our group behaving in this manner, we accept the fact that these actions took place behind our banner in what was an unofficial ‘Green Brigade section’ and furthermore that the fans within this area are associated to our group whether they are members or not.Â
“It is particularly disappointing given how hard we have worked as a member organisation of Fans Against Criminalisation and of our own accord to fight the criminalisation of football supporters as we realise the damage that the events of Friday night could have on our efforts to challenge the continued harassment of Celtic fans by Police Scotland.
“Ultimately, we should have had greater control of the bodies present within our block and our failure to do so has resulted in events which are unacceptable and we will strive to ensure that such scenes are not repeated.”
The extent of Green Brigade involvement at Fir Park is bound to be debated but there can be no doubt that 100 plus thugs were in the ground with a large number of others sympathetic to their actions.
Equally obvious was the fact that the police were content to allow the seat breaking and smoke bomb throwing to take place without intervention.
Five days earlier there were no smoke bombs at Tynecastle with fans having to go through four security checks to get inside the ground.
There isn’t much that Celtic can do about security at other grounds but over the coming week the onus is on the club to identify the thugs from Fir Park and ensure that they never set foot in Celtic Park again and that access to away match tickets is strictly controlled.
It’s not difficult to get on a train to Motherwell and double shuffle into the ground then meet up with others in a stand where the tickets are unnumbered and stewards seem AWOL.
By posting pictures of the thugs from Fir Park on the Celtic website the identification process can begin to bring about justice and clean up the Celtic support, allowing ordinary supporters to enjoy away days as they have done for years.

I have been a Celtic Supporter for almost 51 years. In that time we have collectively been demonised by all who oppose us. This includes the Scottish media as well as the SFA and SPL not to mention those who believe we should all go home because the famine’s over.
Does this give us a right to do whatever certain sects of our ‘support’ feel is necessary to combat this injustice? The answer is simply…NO! Mick you essentially have condoned this behaviour…” its only a few seats and a flare and a smoke bomb”. As long as the people who did commit this vandalism don’t have to pay for this. Who has to pay? CELTIC FC have to pay. So will the Celtic Support. The price of entry, concessions etc. will rise to recuperate this money.
I now live in Canada and I pay my monthly fee to see Celtic every game on Celtic TV. Now before any of you tell me I cannot be a ‘REAL’ Celtic supporter because I am not at games I would like to remind you that I do not cost my beloved Celtic anything and I could argue that I am more valuable as any damage I cause watching Celtic comes out of my own pocket.
I am not blaming the Green Brigade per se. I am however asking for no more political banners, self-policing and appropriate songs about Celtic FC. I am an ardent Scottish and Irish Republican but I do not believe this should be displayed at a football ground.
Please grow up. The smoke bombs, flames and vandalism are puerile acts.
It is quite interesting that myself and a good number of others posted critical replies last night in response to an horrendous article by one Wullie Broon on the Celtic Network site. This article attempted to justify what happened on Friday night and used some glaringly obvious deflection tactics to do so. It was also full of hypocrisy.
An overwhelming number of responses criticised him for such a stupid article. Suddenly, last night it was taken off, as were all our responses. I wish I had copied it beforehand, but I am sure many will already have read it.
It seems that the GB and their supporters do NOT like being criticised. As I said in my comments yesterday, they have no respect for society, for its rules, for other Celtic Supporters or for fans of other clubs and they had no right whatsoever to cause damage to the property of another club. I am sick of their self-interested and selfish acts.
They have no regard for the safety of others. Making statements like today’s is meaningless to me and to many others. They say they should have had greater control over the fans round about, but the fact is that they didn’t and they never do. The little boy has cried ‘wolf’ once too often.
Any culprits identified MUST be banned for life from football. My interest is in supporting Celtic Football Club, not in all this rubbish. I do not bring my politics, and my beliefs to Celtic Park. I am mixing with a diverse group of fans and I come with friends who are equally diverse in their views.
This means that we should not thrust our beliefs and politics down others throats, assuming that all Celtic Fans are clones. Each and everybody’s beliefs must be respected. The demonstrations by the GB and their followers, for that is what they are, do not offer this respect to others. My message is – take your politics and your so-called beliefs elsewhere. They have no place here.
I noticed that as well silver fhox, wullie broon obviously didn’t get the response he wanted, but he will never post anything now that will be taken seriously. Not that much was to be honest
Spot on Harry. The tide is turning and Celtic supporters are realising that they are not alone in their dislike of these pirates who are trying to take over our club.
Spot on silver fhox.. these selfish arseholes have zero respect for their fellow Celtic fan or the club and I for one am sick of them holding the rest of us ransom to their political beliefs and bad behaviour. they do not speak for me or the majority of us but they feed every negative stereotype of the Celtic fan that the Huns and the media love to criticise us for. time for the rest of us to reclaim our club and get these Neds to feck. I support celtic that’s all. HH
I agree wholeheartedly Johnnybhoy. They do not speak for me either and I suspect they do not speak for many others. I believe that the events of Friday and the statement made by the GB today, will have done them as much harm as the harm they have inflicted on the vast majority of decent supporters and on the Club itself. I don’t think they thought for one minute that the overwhelming weight of opinion would strike against them. Instant Karma.
ladnertim thanks for your input am not condoneing any drama its wrong its as simple as that but some1 has to defend the young lads every1 is to quick to bash them as a said seats get broke all the time 10grand of damage its not going to break the bank and am sure no 1 will ever call you out for not attending games your a fan and thats that you cant define a fan weather they go every week or once every year even if you just like the tic and check the score your still a fan a can tell for your reply.
Your well level headed so the more you input the better to all debates and not just this 1 ,a see the young lads as letting off steam the section is needed for its easier for the ground workers to keep order if they are spread through the stadium we would need more stewards to watch them and a bet the police like them at the 1 bit for movment reasons there is lots of pros and cons.
If we get a result at barca this will be old news whats the soccer like in canada and there fans when you look at other ultras around europe then its easy to see that our 1s are well behaved also the fans get right angry as we are usually incident free at games zero tolerance is not what am about but not every1 is like me we all think differantly and have differing views as yous can see my cup is always half full lol hail hail sometimes a blame the smsm for some of your mindsets lets move on and support the gb foodbank idea feed the needy of glasgow
Mick, you are a disgrace. You are a yob but strangely you don’t see that this reflects on you. You are obviously thick as well. You have no self respect. Do one.
There is no need for personal abuse, we are Celtic supporters capable of holding a sensible, honest debate.
I don’t think you can ague with bribhoy’s comment Joe. Mick’s comments are, indeed, disgraceful. Mick brings this upon himself by lack of reasoned and logical argument. Reasoned and logical argument is what a sensible, honest debate consists of, not throwaway remarks unsupported by evidence. His strange beliefs get the better of him.
Well said,JoeMc.
There are so many on here taking the
moral high ground.
Mick is entitled to his opinion as we
live in a democracy with freedom of
expression.
Now,I don’t agree with him.But as a
fellow Tim he is entitled to HIS
VIEWPOINT.
My view is the media coverage is OTT.
Yesterday 100 seats,Today 200 seats.
I didn’t SEE ‘RIPPING OUT’ of seats,and
NO footage either.
Yes their behaviour was nedish.
But,he who is without sin, cast the
first stone. There is a lot of casters
on here,who forget their youth.The
boys causing trouble,are misguided
youths.
Posters on here, are giving each
other a pat on the back,on showing
their degrees of hatred towards these
boys.
It,saddens me,as they are Celtic fans.
Our REAL enemies are loving this.
The PC brigade have taken over the
asylum. In over 40 years going everywhere with CELTIC I have seen
REAL violence.Friday was out of ordet
youths. But for MSM to say it’s some
of the worst VIOLENCE EVER.
Please,politicaly correct posters on
here,THINK AGAIN.
I did not SEE ‘RIPPING OUT’ of seays
pity you didn’t call mick to book since he is the most provative and personal poster on this site, your silence was deafening.
I agree entirely yogi. If you look back over each of his posts, the evidence is there, on this and on other sites, like Phil’s today, for example.
if the green brigade cannot police there section then they should pass the names of the hooligans to the club who can take apropriate action to get rid of these people who are dragging celtic through the gutter
GB are getting a bad press here, and as a member of another fans organisation I am going to jump to their defence on this issue. I was in the top tier of the stand at Fir Park and can assure you that many of the seats were broke after the game was finished whilst exiting the stadium, in full view of the stewards and police.
I personally know some of the Green Brigade lads and they are anything but the yobs they are being portrayed as. The vandalism I witnessed was committed by young boys no older than 16/17 and it would be impossible for the GB to have stopped it. I am positive if they have CCTV in operation for 5/10 mins after the final whistle then the majority of the culprits will be identified.
You have to say fair play to the GB for taking it on the chin as it was their section of the ground, but look a bit deeper and you might just find they are not the guilty party after all.
The Green Brigade are finished they bring nothing but bad publicity to the club.
You wonder why you are searched going into grounds, smoke bombs, flairs, spray cans for graffiti. If everyone of you now get searched going into every game from now on then you have brought it on yourselves. The majority of the decent Celtic fans do not want you anymore, stay away, this kind of behaviour is going to result in someone being seriously injured or killed. Celtic should now split this crowd up like they were going to do, no more chances they have burned all there bridges.
No matter what any of us say now, I think the Board is backed into a corner and have no choice but to close section 111. Wonder who’s fault that is, so no more decrying the PLC.
Looks like the GB have finally hung themselves with P/L imaginary rope.
