Saint Mirren captain Jim Goodwin has accepted a two match ban from the SFA and will miss Sunday’s match with Celtic as well as the New Year’s Day clash with Kilmarnock.
Dundee United were furious when Goodwin’s forearm smash on Stuart Armstrong went unpunished by referee Bobby Madden when the side’s met on December 26.
Last season Madden sent off Victor Wanyama in a St Mirren v Celtic match which was later reduced to a yellow card.
The incident has sparked a war of words between the two clubs with United posting a clip of the incident on You Tube and alerting fans to the clip through their Facebook and Twitter accounts.
With no explanation of exactly what incidents the SFA decide to review the move to You Tube has upset Danny Lennon.
The Saints boss said: “My football club would not do that. It’s not in the make-up of our club to be putting anything out there (on social media).
“With the very good coverage that the BBC give our game, nothing would go unseen by the SFA and the disciplinary panel.
“So I found it a little bit strange that another club would do that. We all work in different ways but that was a first for me.”
Goodwin was substituted before half time with Jackie McNamara unhappy about a number of aspects of Madden’s display.
“I was disappointed with some of the challenges that went in,” the Dundee United boss said. “That was reflected in the substitutions that Danny made before the end of the half. Jim could have been sent off before that.
“It wasn’t just the number of fouls but the manner in which some of them were carried out.”
After accepting the two match ban a St Mirren statement said: “As a club we were disappointed to find one of our players singled out for criticism by another football club both in the media and thereafter on their website.”

So St Mirren are prepared to condone violent conduct ?
I don’t see what St. Mirren’s complaint is…Goodwin clearly committed a bad foul, got the benefit during the game as it was missed by the referee. Now he gets, rightly a 2 game ban, are they wishing the incident to be brushed under the carpet ?
Goodwin knew what he was doing, fans like myself might not watch Sportscene so missed the incident. It’s up to Dundee Utd what they put on their website / social media page as long as they accept responsibility in this case action had already been taken & dealt with so no problem in highlighting why surely.
Danny Lennon should content himself that his team were fortunate to get to play with 11 men, no idea of score / time of incident but could have had an effect on outcome.
Out of order by Goodwin and Dundee Utd are quite right to stick this online if it means a wee bit of justice for an assault on one of their young players.
That wasn’t the only assault worthy of a straight red he committed in that game. He’s a dirty bassa. And seems to single out young, smaller players for his vicious fouls. Neil Lennon called it right last season. He thinks he’s a hard man, but he’s a effin f……
Tim,
Yes,Lenny also got done in that game.
Some Hun,fireside loyal,watching the game on sky,phoned the sfa,about Lenny’s
language.
Loony,then looked over the footage,and
Neil copped a 2 game ban.
Goodwin must be just about the most consistently dirty footballer in our league. He is guilty of this in every game he plays and deserves his ban. More often, than not, he gets away with it. He would have on this occasion as well, had it not been for clear video evidence. So yes, it would seem that St Mirren and their manager do indeed condone violent conduct in their players. Danny Lennon is very stupid if he thinks his player is being singled out. It’s a comment that can be expected from him, however.
One of the top 10 deflections of the season. Instead of berating either Danny Lennon or Jackie McNamara the msm, clubs and fans should be berating the FOUR pish poor officials who were at the game.
This highlights to me that video evidence from any source is a get out clause for them, players and managers get hammered by it but sweet FA happens to the officials for missing it.
