Neil Lennon is hoping to make an early signing when the transfer window opens on Wednesday.
The hoops boss has watched a number of signing targets in recent weeks with Huddersfield’s Oliver Norwood catching Lennon’s eye.
After the 1-0 win at Inverness the Celtic boss revealed: “We have made in-roads into trying to sign one player.
“Nothing has been confirmed yet but we are looking to freshen the squad up, it’s a little bit thin with six or seven players out at the moment.
“We’re hoping for an injection with a few coming through in the second half of the season with Champions League qualifiers starting in July.
“January is a difficult month to do business, teams want to hold onto their more valuable assets which is understandable, we’re in exactly the same position. We don’t want any of our players to leave.
“What we want to do is try to find value for money and add a little bit of quality to the squad.”
While Lennon looks to add to his squad it looks more likely that Georgios Samaras and Joe Ledley will be moving on.
With no sign of new contracts being agreed the Celtic boss is realistic enough to know that both men could move on next month.
Whether Samaras or Ledley agree to move on remains to be seen with both players free to negotiate their own deals in the summer.
Hull City have been linked with both players with Cardiff and Crystal Palace both keeping tabs on Ledley’s situation.
“We will try to get down to negotiate with them and get them on board for the rest

I’m going to be worried if Ledley and Samaras go. PL will no doubt “replace” them with another couple of Baldies and pukkis. We’ll be lucky to get through the qualification rounds next year- not that any of the board could give a toss.
First Joe,
I like your TW badge.
But,will it be a badge of honour when the
window closes ?
Para, worried if Ledley and Samaras go ?
I can’t wait to see them go.
Also the board will give a toss, if we don’t
make CL group stages
Money talks. Uefa will soon give our club
17 M, add the 10 M CL gates and alarm
bells would ring if this money did not come into the club.
I don’t buy into this,January “is a difficult
time to do business. “As Lenny has said.
Where there’s a will,there’s a way.
Do we have the money ? Yes.
Are there players in the English Championship, who would improve our
team ? Yes.
No excuses, just go and get them.
Even Wells,a goalmachine at Bradford,in
Div 1,valued at 3M,would put our strikers
to shame.
Peter Lawwell says we are now recognised
as a Champions League club, in European
circles.
I say to Peter, PUT YOUR MONEY WHERE
YOUR MOUTH IS.
Let’s hope your right.
All valid except that a player can earn 3 times as much in the championship. So why move to an inferior league for possibly 6 games a season .
Neither Sammi or Joe look motivated at the moment so it might be best for all if they did move on. We won’t get much of a fee but it would free up a decent chunk of wages so you never know, we might get a real striker after all.
I’d be much more concerned if Lennon gave new deals to such as Samaras, Ledely, Kayal…bad enough giving Stokes 3 year deal….If any of these guys played for St. Johnstone or ICT we wouldn’t even notice them.
All this crap about a defensive midfielder for Scottish domestic football is mental. Most clubs play 1 up so if our back 4 can’t cope v 1 or maybe 2 players they shouldn’t be at Celtic.
Get some attacking creativity into our midfield not more defensive, headless chickens.
Our main attacking threat is our full backs FFS…Forrest goes down blind alleys too often, not showing any signs of improvement.
I’d say our players are lacking in both real fitness and definitely in sharpness…plenty of work needing done behind the scenes ON & OFF the park.
I don’t know why we just don’t pay the 5m for finnbogason,a proven striker who has a good resale price with his age if that’s what they keep going on about. We just can’t keep buying boys for the future we need to bite the bullet at some stage, especially when it’s a striker.
He doesn’t want to come !!!
Dont worry. Big Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be here soon
He’s a celtic fan & his hero was henrik larsson,he was looking the move in the summer.
