Ledley completes Palace deal

Joe Ledley Celtic news

Joe Ledley completed his £800,000 transfer to Crystal Palace minutes before the close of the transfer window tonight.

Celtic accepted the offer from the London club late on Thursday night with the midfielder flying to London to meet his agents for talks at Selhurst Park.

Palace boss Tony Pullis is a long time admirer of the 27-year-old and lost out to Celtic in 2010 when Ledley joined Celtic despite an offer from Stoke City.

Pullis replaced Ian Holloway as manager of Palace at the end of November and has steered the club out of the relegation zone having looked doomed when he took over.

Palace are currently sitting in 14th place with 23 points from 23 matches with Ledley in line to make his debut away to Arsenal on Sunday.

In total Ledley made 146 appearances for Celtic plus 13 as a substitute scoring 20 goals from midfield.

Ledley’s most memorable goal for Celtic came in December 2011 when he scored the only goal of the game against Rangers to take the hoops to the top of the table having trailed Ally McCoist’s rampant Rangers (IL) side by 15 points the previous month.

The Welshman was among Neil Lennon’s first Celtic signings, helping the club to two championships and one Scottish Cup success, missing the 2011 Scottish Cup win over Motherwell through injury.

Ledley’s last match for Celtic was against Kilmarnock on Wednesday night when he opened the scoring in a 4-0 win to extend Celtic’s lead at the top of the SPFL table to 18 points.

Earlier in the day Mikey Miller and Joe Chalmers completed loan deals to Dumbarton and Livingston, joining Paul George (Hamilton) and Stuart Fidlay (Morton) in the Championship.
