BBC ScotlandBBC Alba had to reschedule their re-run of the fiery Ross County v St Mirren match due to bad language from supporters.

Just over 3,000 fans were inside Victoria Park to watch the home side win 2-1 with almost ten times that number expecting a re-run of the match at 5.30pm.

Panic stricken producers decided that they couldn’t allow their audience to hear the sweary words delaying transmission to 10.55pm- past the watershed.

A BBC Alba spokeswoman said: “In compliance with the rules set by Ofcom, where no programme that carries offensive language can be broadcast pre-watershed, BBC Alba had no choice but to defer broadcast of today’s Ross County v St Mirren match until post-watershed due to bad language picked up from the crowds.”

Swearing is regularly picked up and broadcast from players and managers with the more obvious examples usually bringing a hasty apology from the commentator.

BBC Alba commentate in gaelic but use pundits speaking English as well as pre-match interviews which are entirely in English with football matches regularly drawing their biggest audiences.

On the park things got almost as fiesty as Ross County beat St Mirren plunging the Paisley side back into the play-off spot.

Midway through the second half managers Derek Adams and Danny Lennon clashed with each other with Willie Collum sending both men to the stand although it’s unlikely that a Holyrood summit will be called to deal with the issue.

After the match both managers were eager to play down the incident in the hope that the SFA will take no further action.

BBC Alba will have a 10pm re-run of the Aberdeen v Celtic match on Tuesday.

Joe McHugh has been Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.
When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.
Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement, cheers big man.
There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same more than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying every success for Scotland's Most Successful Club.

Ha! Ha! There are some spineless jellyfish working for the BBC these days. Couldn’t they just have bleeped it out? And why did they translate it into Gaelic in the first place?

No fan of BBC ,but lets give a nod of approval to any organisation who tries to stem the bad manners and rudeness in our society .We have all been at games with family members and been unfortunate enough to be next to someone with no consideration for others, demonstrated by their language.Sorry Para, but we all need to carry ourselves a bit better and Football supporters shouldn’t be treated differently. I am sure you don’t condone bad language coming right into your living room by the medium of tv,so this is my point. All the good work you do with your kids,or grandkids,is undone in a heartbeat. Good luck and G.B.T.C.

No way Yogi what sanitised society do you want to live in? Once a week letting some steam aff is good for most people. Racism or bigotry is abhorrent but swearing is another matter. It is a man’s game. I suppose you think everyone should applaud nicely – “jolly good show”.

On a different note, ah bet the zombies huns will do a complete turnaround now Scotland and Ireland have been drawn together, and be all intae the Scotland team. Hope to god if the computer schedules that match this year, the SFA see sense (ha) and hold it at Celtic Park or Murrayfield. Scotland v Ireland at The Orc Arena wid be a nightmare scenario.

Hope both teams can qualify. Mon the Celtic nations. Hail Hail

      Yogi,

      I disagree re swearing.

      I don’t swear in general.Be it at home,work etc.

      However, I have to admit,at games,the
tension at games,I find myself swearing.
Or watching a game in the house or pub,
I can uncontrolably let a few expletives out.

I wouldn’t say I am a bad person for this.
I consider it,all part of the passion of the
      game.

        Joe,

I meant to say, above,I like your line,

“it’s unlikely a Holyrood summit will be
        called ”

If it had been a different Mr Lennon.
Like you eluded to,our very own Neil
Francis, then all hell would have broke
        loose.

      • yogi says:

Peter,You make a fair and acceptable comment, all I am saying is we need to know when not to swear.

        • peter says:

          Thanks,Yogi.

You are right also.Swearing for the sake, of just swearing is wrong. In this
context, a person knows what they are
          doing.
          Whereas,watching football,anxiety can
cause you to say swear words, purely
          unintentionally.

Yogi,I can see this is what you mean.

Does that mean that the BBC will only screen the Sevco games after the 9pm watershed from now on as the Sevco songs, chats and vile comments are toxic in the extreme. . .with no apology given EVER!

  • Pyewacket1888 says:

Well what I got from all this is the wonderful news that.
The f***ing game swearing an all will be screened at 10 pm. So I can see it after work.
Sorry bhoys for the swearing. HH
