Former Hibs striker Leigh Griffiths opened his Celtic scoring account today against Hearts at Tynecastle.
Taking a brilliant diagonal pass from Anthony Stokes in his stride Griffiths turned the highly rated Danny Wilson inside out before drilling a low shot beyond Jamie McDonald in the 58th minute.
After netting Griffiths took a salute in front of the angry Hearts fans before running over to receive the congratulations of Neil Lennon.
“I think it was more relief than anything else,” Lennon explained. “Obviously there was an added incentive for a Hibs fan scoring against Hearts, but that’s not the main focus now. He has broken his duck for Celtic and it’s a brilliant start for him.”
The build up and early stages of the match were dominated by thoughts on Fraser Forster breaking Bobby Clark’s long standing record of 1,1155 minutes without losing a goal in league football.
Forster passed that landmark in the 32nd minute and went on to extend the record to 1,215 as Celtic moved three points closer to clinching the title.
Looking back on his side’s 15 match winning run and Forster’s clean sheet record Lennon added: “I sit here a very proud manager. We have just broken a long-standing record, and it’s long-standing record because it’s a very difficult thing to do. It’s a great feather in the cap for the club, and obviously we maintain our unbeaten record in the league.
“I thought we played with great composure. We knew it was going to be a difficult game against a big, physical team. The goal to break the deadlock was fantastic and that will do Leigh the world of good.
“It’s a big step up in his career and you saw the relief and what it meant to him to get the goal. We are hoping that’s plenty more to come from him.
“He has that accuracy with both feet, he hits the ball with great control and hits it so hard, it’s difficult for keepers to get down that quickly. He seems to find the corner of the net with great regularity. His goalscoring record is very good, and that’s the reason we brought him in.”
Teemu Pukki scored Celtic’s second goal in stoppage time.
Good humorous piece,Joe.
I like your still photo, of the rather large
lady,stylishly dressed,spitting nails,
metaphorically speaking, at Griffiths.
Leigh had the last laugh. After they mocked him earlier, when he slipped. His
first goal will boost his confidence,
although he scored a perfectly good goal
last week.
Johanson and Biton getting used to the
Scottish game. They compliment each other well.
At the back.Well done big Fraser. With the
parnership of Virgil and Efe outstanding.
Here’s hoping Lawwell, gives us Virgil for
another season, before he’s tempted to
cash in.
Flats on Gorgi 🙂
The big girl in front of Leigh is quite a looker. She could fit in well with her cousins at Ibrokes.
With regards the big girl. I know him and he is getting pelters about being called a big girl.
Guaranteed
Haw haw haw.

two.

well done leigh on scoring your first goal for the hoops and hopefully many more to come
Leigh Griffiths scored a great goal and it should be GOAL OF THE WEEK on Sky Sports. The Great Wall Fraser Forster goes on and on…keep it going a great Celtic goalie. HAIL HAIL THE CELTIC THE CHAMPIONS.
Good win at swinecastle.I love beatin them as they are more bigotted than that sevco mob.leigh griffiths welcome to the celtic family.hh.
Go on herself Leigh. Have fun with the celts. Hh
What I think is great for us just now is the fact that, we have such a good lead ahead, that can allow the new Celts to get used playing with each other with ease, it gives them more confidence on the Ball without the pressure of teams breathing down their necks, which would maybe force a few mistakes, it’s just brilliant we have that space to do that, well done to Leigh – Teemu & Big Fraser “the Wa”.
